So Jamie Allen had done ok in an FA Cup tie and now he's the next Gustavo Hamer.
Surely him putting in a standard midfield performance says more about the quality we currently have rather than how he is the answer to our midfield woes.
Sure I've said this before, is Jamie Allen a top 10 team central midfielder??

Let's not think that because Kitching had come in and done "ok" and that because Allen has put in a generally "standard" midfield performance, that we should think that this is the answer to some of our problems.

Kitching was excellent and Allen has played well most of the times he’s played this year.

Bling isn’t gonna spend, so they must play

If Allen starts regular going forward his limitations will be exposed as they are every time he has a consistent run of games. He's ok as a 4th/5th choice and that's it.

He wasn't exposed in 22/23 though was he ? Not saying he's the answer but I'm saying he's done well at this level for us .

He started 34 games in a team that nearly got to the Premier league , and scored some important goals that season

Never rated him, faarrrr too fucking lightweight, couldn't tackle his way out of a brown paper bag.

Having said that, credit where it's due, he's made a big difference in the last 2 games, he's given us some quick passing and movement and got us moving upfield instead of the backwards sideway backwards shite we'd seen before.

With Sheaf missing his experience will definitely be needed.

Allen is a decent championship midfielder. He needs to be played in the right position with the right players around him (I.e. not as a CDM as he was v Stoke). He won’t set the world alight but I’m happy to big him up for having a good game.

Kitching is a confidence player. Too many people play down how important that is in a CB. Pleased he got a goal and hoping for bigger things from him. Some portray him as a clown but that’s not what I’m seeing.

I mean he was one of the weaker first team members that year but didn't let us down.

I'm happy for Allen to be around the squad and can be valuable for the occasional minutes and back up but if we're looking at him to be a key player or spine of the squad going forward I'm not sure we will be moving up the table anytime soon.

You say he did okay, I would say he was man of the match. That doesn’t make him Hamer but it does mean he should be given credit for his performance rather than sneered at. He made a difference today and helped to put us on the front foot in an attacking sense time and time again. He has had horrendous luck with illness and injury over the past 18 months and but for that he would have been a lot more involved in the first team as he was in the play off season. You can tell very quickly that he is good player when you watch him. Low centre of gravity, comfortable on the ball, quick feet and happy to receive the ball in tight situations. Add athleticism and stamina and you can see why he was a regular in Robin’s teams when fit.
I don’t understand why some of our fans need to turn a positive performance into a negative comment and to belittle a player who always gives his best and has been a big part our rise through the league.

In the playoff season playing with a back 3/5 he had his best season , coincidence?
Robins always praised his ability to read a game

Yeah. Usually playing further forward which plays to his strengths more imo. Could be that he's adapting his game which would be interesting but credit where it is due.

He's no Hamer or O'Hare but he's always been a consistent performer for us . Last two seasons he's had an awful run of injuries but Robins always talked him up .
Think he will play more than not in the second half of the season

I think he gives you energy movement and willingness to take a ball that you miss without O’Hare. Too weak in the tackle for a DM but good in a three or as an AM IMO.

Allen is a FL type of player and if FL cant get a couple of younger versions come summer Allen will be part of his squad next season. Adds decent depth for anyone in the championship in my opinion.

I remember a couple of seasons ago our squad was, as it perennially seems to be, light on numbers and further stretched by injury.
Allen came back from a lay off and made a real difference.

He was also on his way out at one point but was professional, got his head down and earned a new contract.

So possibly history could repeat itself.

Been part of everything we've achieved since L1 and will always be warmly welcomed back in my eyes but I'd like him to stay especially as I don't think we'll be signing a glut of top midfielders between now and next season.

He showed again at Norwich, that getting in opposition faces has been that missing ingredient from our team & now another good game last night .
He’s never been spectacular, especially with some of the “ stars “ we’ve had , but just an honest little fella , who certainly tries his heart out

I like him, but and it is one frailty with him, it depends on who we play.

Been many a game against really physical sides when he has constantly been outmuscled and knocked off the ball.

He's a very decent player to have in your squad though.
