What I particularly don't understand is last season general consensus was he'd done quite well. This season, despite doing just as well, he's the devil incarnate!

Someone had to replace Jordan Shipley as the boo boy, next season should Allen move on it will be someone else.

Continuously criticizing or scapegoating one of our players seems to have become an intrinsic part of this forum and there are many of you who should be ashamed of yourselves. The constant belittling of Jamie Allen had become sickening.
Regardless of his ability, the manager, who has the player under his supervision all week, puts his faith in him to do a job and irrespective of whether he is at the level required by yourselves there is no denying his commitment, professionalism and the 100% effort he puts in to every game.

He's not the fall guy, I just think most people would like to see more than just 'sufficient' for a team trying to establish themselves in the top 10 of the Championship. I don't have a problem with having 'sufficient' squad players, but I'd like to see our regular starters being more than that.

If Palmer or Sheaf had put up Allen's numbers from Saturday they'd (rightly) get absolutely pilloried. He was an absolute passenger unfortunately.

L1 is his level. That's undeniable. He's still around because his wages aren't high and we have no competition for places.

But the stats show he isn’t very good at that either – Hamer, Sheaf and Palmer are all far superior in just about every metric.

What exactly does he do in the transition from defence to attack that is so vital? Let me guess… more running?

I’m not hating on the guy, his workrate is excellent as his commitment and passion to the team, he has some good attributes and has contributed well at times this season. I’m just trying to understand what it is he apparently does so well other than run around a lot.

If we are going to establish ourselves as a top ten team we need to replace far more players than just Jamie Allen.

Good examples of Allen at his best are:the goals for Vik vs Cardiff at home last season and Hamer vs Peterborough at home. There was one other great example vs Sheff Utd but we didn't score that time (Hamer missed just before half time). He's been less effective doing it while the whole team is less effective in that way of playing in the absence of O'Hare.

Let's not also ignore his good running beyond the strikers (goals at Stoke, affective assist for Vik at Cardiff) - which other midfielders do we have that do this?

I don't deny that he's a sometimes limited footballer but his lack of obvious impact on the game at times is far less of an issue than Palmer's lack of obvious impact.

He's also being asked to play a specific role. It's silly to suggest he can't do what other players can. That may very well be true, but many of them couldn't manage the role he's being asked to play.

Always stick up for JA and feel he really does add qualities to the team that we otherwise lack...

But he's just not good enough is he?

Allen’s positioning around he six yard box and anticipation of a rebound etc is awful. Gyokeres telling him to attack the near post but in one ear and out the other.

Allen runs for fun and gives his all for the team, never injured and is always available no matter what is asked of him. If the opinion is he is not good then i think, that's wrong. What i would say is i think he is a player that is being gradually left behind as the squad is definitely going to get stronger and a better standard of quality will be being brought in.

This summer MR will be looking at a different pool of players to bring in, which is what's needed. Allen is a good pro and is a decent player, but is he at or going to be at the level MR is looking at to takes us futher?. Id say no and think this summer will be his toughest, but respect to him for not giving up and sticking around to make himself captain when he was told he could leave a couple of summers ago.

He cant be faulted or knocked for effort and desire i just think we are stepping up in levels. And when that happens players of Allens age find a level. I truly believe Allen has found it and will continue to make a good living out of the game, just not sure it will be with us long-term.

I've never been a fan, not even in League 1. However, we are short on bodies, he does cover a lot of ground ( whether he does anything effective at the end of that run is another arguement). If we are looking to go up we need a better player ahead of him in the squad.

Robin’s views today:
Jamie Allen’s performance in the side…

“He can knit things together when he’s a bit higher and he scores goals and contributes goals. He scored a brilliant goal against Norwich City the other week. but he creates things as well and a bit more belief.

“He finishes really well and he’s got a very good technique and he makes brilliant runs as good as anyone in the division and he found the space at the start of the second half and he found the back of the net which is what we needed to settle things down.”

FFS all these Allen vs Palmer arguments, trying to score points on a forum.

If we play two AMs and you want two Jamie Allens, you’re mad. And if you want to play two Kasey Palmers you’re mad as well. I’m quite happy to have them both on the pitch.

Good technique's one of the things Robins always refers back to in interviews about Allen.

Interestingly, he also suggested he needs more confidence in his own abilities. tbf Robins can be blamed for that a bit, as he sent him to shmmeee for the mental coaching.

This is nothing really to do with palmer - he will always be liked by a lot of supporters - always. Allen has had everything chucked at him for the last few weeks

It's more if you play two and O'Hare is fit, who plays.

For me as a general rule it's Allen against the better teams and away from home, Palmer against the poorer teams and at home.
