I’ve been to loads of matches , watching my beloved Skyblues , but THAT double tackle , was I believe, the worst I have ever witnessed .
Surely the club should be sending a complaint in , along with all the televised clips , as Jamie was lucky to hopefully escape with a few bruises today , instead of a broken leg & jaw ?

Was a terrible challenge but - as I’ve said in the other thread I was less surprised that Sakamoto wasn’t sent off for kicking out after he was fouled.

I don’t know if 55 refers to your birth year but if you don’t remember Summerbee on Froggatt, Megson on Emerson, or even Humphrey on Smith then I’m pleased for you.

Youssef Safri playing for us broke Colin Healy’s leg with a terrible tackle at HR and Robert Page knocked out several of Michael Doyle’s teeth in training.

Allen did the lad a massive favour by not going down like he'd been shot.

Jay Mceveley on Lameiras is another one that sticks in the memory. I'm surprised the Safri one on Healy isn't featured in Sunderland's fatwa against us, but then again I suppose it evens out the Summerbee one. IIRC Healy was never the same player (he was decent too in his loan spell here).

Salako's leg breaking challenge on Steve Harkness was one that would probably yield a 6 game ban these days. Don't think he was even booked!

Aside from being a violent c***, Nicky Summerbee was one of the worst professional footballers I’ve ever seen in the flesh. One game against us at HR he was continually dribbling the ball out of play.

Nasty, vindictive guy.

Bryan Robson was also a dirty sod, but at least he was a great player.

It's wasn't as bad as the Sheffield United one at Bramall Lane several seasons ago and there has been worse challenges in other games in recent weeks. Yes they may have received a red, but your are saying it's the worst challenge have ever witnessed? That is either complete hyperbole or you haven't watched much football.

I have seen Bryan Robson and Graeme Souness do far worse tackles on a Coventry midfielder, I am talking wiping a player out at knee height and we didn't even get a free kick, let alone a booking or a sending off. It was a bad reckless challenge; but worst ever? Get a grip

He had previously hit Collins after the ball had well gone
That was a yellow or at least a word

Same as Roy Keane, that tackle on Haaland he should of been charged with assault.

Has anyone got a clip of this? I was outraged at the time but views can be distorted in the heat of the battle when everyone around is enraged and it wasn't on the highlights reel. Would like a closer look to see if it's as bad as I think I was.

I’m convinced Jamie Allen getting up and squaring up rather than rolling around was an issue - Allen should have screamed and played up to it

Konjic basically decked Chris Sutton in front of the West Terrace, after receiving loads of rough treatment all games.

Stuff today does pale in comparison really.

There's been loads worse challenges than that. It's just we have UHD, tons of angles and super slow mo's now. Every challenge looks worse in slow motion. The elbow on him that broke his jaw was worse.

Michael Doyle would do one of those challenges every single game a few years ago, always made sure he slapped or punched a player on the follow through. Used to get away with it 9/10 and when he didn't it would just be a booking.

Football in 2025 is getting far too soft.

in the modern game it was a red but as others have said Allen should’ve rolled on the floor as these awful referees go off stuff like that

Don't remember Humphrey. The other two were career ending tackles. Don't think Froggatt ever played again and Emerson went from brilliant to very poor. Megson did another of our players, possibly Gynn? Brian Clough bought Megson then sacked him right away saying he was a thug.

This is the ref that has not shown a red card this season. Wonder why? Don't usually show incidents like that on highlights, so producer obviously thought it was a red/

I was involved in a crush in the East Stand the night of that Sunderland game and spent a few days in hospital afterwards. Healy was in the next bed to me and a few people that worked for City came to see him. Still annoys me now that no one from Sunderland did.

I remember Donal Murphy kicking Kenny Burns in the preverbials and walking straight off before the referee could send him off.

The John Humphrey thing probably doesn’t belong here, it wasn’t so much a single tackle but a 90 minute series of fouls and kick during Charlton’s 0-0 draw at HR. During David Smith’s breakthrough season (1987-8). To my mind Smith never fully took his fullback on again after that encounter the way he had at the very start of his career.

As Fernando says, the McEvely “challenge” on Lamieras was far worse

Looks just as nasty after the event. Bundo fully intended to hurt Allen, I dont think there is any doubt about it.

Thank you. Yep shocking. Not slowed down or zoomed in, pretty horrific and could easily have had a different outcome.

It was obvious of how much intent there was, he appeals for a free kick, doesn't get it so went in like that.
