I would argue we’re only top of the table for now and because the parachute teams are all having bad seasons.

There’s always circumstances for why a team is top. Take Leicester winning the prem cause all the other top six sides bottled it.

Doesn’t take away from the achievement. We are one of two sides to have the points we did by Christmas. It’s not due to anyone else that we achieved that. Likewise it’s not due to anyone else if we bottle it

Far be it from me to defend an argument based on Transfermarkt data, but surely over-counting the number of arrivals would mean the cost-per-player would in reality be even higher?

The biggest and most obvious argument against Austin’s signings being rubbish would be that we’re currently top of the league…

Well no as an argument has been presented which itself is spurious and with an absurdly inaccurate data set to try and make the argument.

The more loans you make the multiplier kicks in even more. Anyone with half a brain would think it’s odd hull signed 90 players. It’s full of double counting and in one season alone at least 10 were loans of players already ok their books returning and under 21 players also signing a professional contract. There are about 10 more short term loans in there as well.

The other metric - the fee is always questionable as well. He was lambasting someone the other day that Lee Hughes cost us money as “transfer market shows we made a profit” - we lost, as the other poster pointed out, over £2 million - but oh no - transfer market says this.

That would really get the fan base on side if he said that

I think he's had too many sweets this morning.

Why indeed? Why not the title? Why not win everything?

I can see a few of you are slow to catch on so I’ll break out the crayons: because we’d spent huge amounts compared to a mid table team and he was expecting a return to match.

Yeah so ultimately you can only take where we are at the end and excuses and circumstances cancel out.

This squad of players met those expectations in Lampard’s first full season, and is on track to exceed them in his second.

Fair enough if you want to credit their success to other external factors like other teams playing badly etc (I don’t) but given that you’d be the first to slam Austin if we didn’t meet those expectations, it feels a bit like ‘heads I win/tails you lose’.

Circumstances don’t cancel out tho. You’ll still have some people say we only went up if we manage it due to the parachute teams as you get people saying Leciester only won cause the premier teams bottled it.

For me, the squad was given the task to get into the playoffs 3 times in five years by the owner and try and sneak through into the prem. We’ve achieved two in three years and look to be on course to achieve it again this year as a minimum.

As much as we are worried about missing out, I do feel like this is a wake up and smell the roses time for us Coventry fans after the previous decades under sisu.

My criticism is Austin hasn’t been “every signing is a failure” that’s your cartoon version, it’s been “we’ve just about got what we paid for and we paid a fuck ton. And next season we will need to get more bang for our buck to stay up”.

I really don't get the constant need to belittle how well we've done so far this season. You're becoming the biggest culprit. It's just plain weird.

How is not belittling someone's achievment to say it "only" happened because of others' failures?

Well it’s not. Some people can’t discuss things without it all being “everything’s great” or “everything’s shit” it’s a bit tiresome to constantly have to justify discussion on a discussion forum tbh

Saying you are getting the crayons out, people farming for likes or trolls when they don't agree with you is very tiresome.

Especially when you have in the past described yourself as an expert data analyst and yet have presented the biggest pile of shite I have seen as so called data to try and justify a failed hypothesis.

22/23 watford finished 11th norwich finished 13th , burnley were promoted after relegation

Does that mean that sheffield united only did well because watford and norwich had bad seasons

The last 2 seasons has had one of the parachute teams not go up, does he wonder why there are 4 parachute teams?

Last season only 1 parachute team went up, and 1 got relegated.

His argument is nonsense.

Youd argue the league is stronger if ipswich ( who got almost 100 points 2 years ago ) are struggling to put consistent form together to achieve automatic form and leicester and southampton are struggling

Burnley and Leeds both got promoted last year genius. And Sheff Utd finished third. The highest places non parachute club was Sunderland in 4th.

Just wondering if we can have double training sessions with Markelo so he can get fit twice as quickly in half the time .

But have underperformed.

It’s mental this place will fully agree on obvious shit until I say it then half the forum lines up to claim it’s mental. In most normal championship seasons the top three is dominated by parachute clubs is not a controversial statement FFS. That’s not “talking us down” or whatever that’s just the reality of finance at this level. JFC.
