I'm really unsure to be honest! Thats why this signing has got a few stumped.

I don't know a lot about the player, is he purely a RW?

Does this mean that Rudoni is out for longer and we will see Esse playing more in CAM.

Find it really bewildering.

Pretty much and Sakamoto has played games at WB, AM and even LW before. That’s my reasoning and it could be wrong.

Sakamoto would probably be more effective at crossing if he didn’t have to cut onto his left foot when crossing every time which is why I think LW would be a decent move for him. The only example that spring to mind was his beautiful cross for Haji’s second v Sunderland last season when he had a spell at LWB.

Minny has played most of his games at RW and has found himself nominally 2nd choice at LW with us.

He’s reportedly cost €5m we better see him for that money!

We just need to appreciate the fact we are able to sign these players , as i said before in another thread money clearly isnt the issue it once was and we dont really need to worry about it from that aspect anymore so the talk about why we are buying him isnt really necessary

We got him because we could

You realise both Esse and his new lad are very left footed too? Similarly EMC is very right footed. We play inverted wingers.

I mean at this point in time, hence I go on to say I think it should be paused. Players to get us over the line, probably wont fall into the "model".

Exactly. We bid big for Rushworth and Hughes in the summer. Rejected but clearly money there for the right acquisition.

Maybe for 1 signing like Onyeka. No more than that though.

Both times we’ve reached the playoffs people have said we have to win them because it’ll be our last chance, players will leave etc. And both times we’ve bounced back pretty quickly thanks to our recruitment strategy. Don’t think we should abandon that now.

Question is do we need to up our wage cap to compete with the likes of Ipswich Boro Brum and Sheff Utd?

I personally think we should go nowhere near trying to compete with parachute clubs and Brum/wrexham on wages. Recipe for disaster

Boros an interesting one though

So in game, is the idea now to have Grimes/Eccles/Torp/Rudoni stick together in midfield and give the ball to Merkelo/ Saka/EMC/Esse/Yang/BTA to do the forward bit to Wright/Simms? Just askin.

Swiss league is decent enough isn't it? Better than that Swedish league thats so trendy atm. Looks more exciting than Manneh with the added bonus of not having a huge medical issue that makes him completely unsignable. I also trust that his age is real.

That’s the dilemma for the club. Probably why a loan with obligation to buy if we get to the Premiership might be best for a player we need. Like Oneyka.

I really hope that's the case and not just a "follow the model" signing, where it's not someone to actually get us over the line but someone we hope to flip a profit on in a couple of years. We are currently, past that bit.

But the reality is that the model is not a single project but an absolute philosophy.

In my opinion its no worse a league than the swedish league, which is where Manneh is playing.

I wonder if this guy was behind Manneh on our list.

That’s precisely my reasoning…

Unlike Sakamoto, they are high volume shooters and dribblers of the ball, Sakamoto is a cross-first winger.

I just don’t believe we’ve signed Markelo to be 3rd choice, so either Sakamoto drops down the pecking order or changes position. That view point could well be wrong, but it’s not baseless.

Sakamoto had played a lot of games at LW and AM for his previously club. We’ve never had depth out wide so we’ve just defaulted to EMC/Saka on the opposite sides and slotted in Haji/BTA/Rudoni when there were injuries.

Can't think of any real examples of us losing out to those clubs from a fairly level footing. Sheffield United were having our trousers down when they were a shite prem team and a first year parachute team. Onyeka could be interesting as it seems like they and possibly Brum are interested too. Lets see how persuasive Doug is.

The point is that Sakamoto isn’t that successful… Jay Dasilva has created more chances than him this season, as has EMC, MVE, Torp and Grimes. He’s marginally better than Rudoni who has been below par.

In 3 games, Esse has half of Tats’ goal tally for this season and even the entirety of last season (42 games)…

People seem to forget we originally signed Sakamoto to be a wing back when we played 3-4-1-2. There’s a lot of denial about Sakmoto’s true ability.

Chance created you can pass the ball to someone 40 yards out and they hit a speculative shot and that's classed as a key pass/chance created.

Even if you want to go by chance created, per 90 Dasilva and Sakamoto are both on 1.4, only Torp and Grimes (both set piece takers) and EMC have better chances created per 90. Well if you exclude Raphael who averages 7.7 per 90.

xA is a better metric as it's the quality of chances Only Grimes (a set piece takers) has an xA better than Sakamoto's. And if your taking xA per 90 Sakamoto is the highest in the team.

No one has created more big chances (8) than Sakamoto.

You moan about Sakamoto but he's only 2 behind EMC in terms of goal contributions, and only Simms, BTA and Wright are ahead of EMC.

You love putting the boot into Sakamoto at every opportunity.

I never fully trust the wages info online as I’m never sure how up to date it is (accounts are always months out of date and inc non players) but I’d would love to know what Sheff Utd and Ipswichs player wage bills are currently

Esse would be on that I guess. Our own players I’m with you, not sure any should be on 30k+ unless we needed that to get grimes over from Swansea for what was a bargain fee

Top of the league but we haven’t got one player worth 30k a week

Meanwhile most of Ipswich’s starting 11 are on more

You’re losing the plot

Ipswich are paying PL contracts. Wright maybe worth £30k that’s about it for me. Who would you pay that to? Torp? Rudoni? MvE? All came from lower leagues and were unproven on signing. I thought the rumoured £25k for Wright and Simms was pushing it tbh.

Also Ipswich are man for man a far better side than us.

If we want to renew someone like MVE he’ll be asking for that kind of money, and if we don’t pay it someone else will.
