It isn't the same thing, though. On the surface, it is.

I lived in dubai for 12 months a long time ago after leaving the army. In dubai is a huge supermarket called the Dragon Mart. It was basically a huge warehouse, full of individual small shops. All Chinese, all knockoffs! Anything you could think of, they'd copied it, and were selling it for half the price or less. But it was all tat. It's cheap shit that didn't last.

I've watched enough YouTube video reviews of the knock-off Defender and pick up trucks, etc, to know they're nothing alike. They might look the same, but they're miles off in terms of actual function and quality

It depends what you're buying though?

Obviously if you're buying fake shit then it will be different?

I've actually bought stuff direct from China that would have been a couple of hundred more from a UK retailer. Exactly the same.

I've seen several Chinese supermarts in Cyprus and Italy, basically large stores with lots of stock.
Goods imported from China, staff Chinese, mostly tech & household products, mostly tat.

I work in Cyber Security and trust me, these things are going to become more common, last longer, and start targeting things harder. As a country we are fucking miles off what we need to do cyber security wise.

Oh and the vast majority of it is being done by exactly the countries you would expect it to be

These cyber attacks are the modern day wars. Still, let's centralise all our data and identification into 1 digital ID when we have laughing stock cyber security in this country, nothing could possibly go wrong with that.....

Have you got any specific insight into the JLR attack? Seems to be very little info out there atm they’re being very tight lipped

Unfortunately not mate, my company didnt do any work with them

Ironically though we did chat to them about potentially holding a penetration test (where we attack them, but dont release any malware etc, to show them where there gaps are) but they said we were too expensive. Well it doesnt look so expensive now does it......

Wouldnt surprise me if its the usual suspects. They're also behind the M+S, banking and Airport issues of recent times.

Expect to see the NHS targeted in the next few months

I wonder how secure things like the power grid and water are? Could cause havoc if they were too be hacked.
