He won't stay, shame reallyJust seen an article from a Scottish website(not saying its completely factual) saying Grimmer is eyeing a move back to Scotland this summer. Personally think its been harsh on him this year. i don't think he should have been dropped first game of the season but Sterling was class most of the season but has been a bit suspect recently. Anyone see Grimmer here next year?
He's a lovely bloke but as a right back he was beaten to the byline far too easily even in L2 - just lacking speed over a yard or two. Although he gets up and down the pitch well his crossing when he gets to the final 3rd is generally poor too. No way he's a Champ RB, think that's a little bit of romanticism creeping in because you know him personally. For me he's a good solid L1 right back but is just not quite comfortable enough in possession for a promotion chasing team that play football on the deck. Would be unfair to keep him around for another season just to sit on the bench though. He was one of my favourite players last season and was a massive help with my Podcast. Personally i hope he stays has not had a chance to prove himself at league one level. With a decent run of games he is championship quality.
Hickman's out of contract this summer. I think his loan could just be a favour by the club to let some teams down at that level see what he can do and get some footage for a highlight tape.He has been a bit unlucky that Sterling is a better player than him, personally I would sign Grimmer for at least another year, but with Hickman going out on loan maybe they see him as the future
Tbf he was voted L2 team of the year by his fellow pros and was in a promotion winning side. Also only 22 so certainly not the finished article. You could be right ref championship but certainly adequate (imo) at this level.I really liked Grimmer last year, it felt like it had been a while since we had a proper attacking full back, however, while really liking him, I was also very aware of the fact he was beaten far too easily defensively too often at League 2 level. I'm not sure he's cut out for League One level. It would be too harsh to base it one appearance and one in a pre-season friendly too, but how easily every Derby played breezed by him at Nuneaton was pretty shocking. Wish him all the best if he does leave as looks likely, especially given *that* goal at Wembley, but believe we will need a more competent replacement if we are to be looking up rather than down.
Completely disagree pal. I think he has everything needed and would only get better with games and experienceNot good enough
Was dogshit at Burton away this seasonAs far as I remember, Grimmer had 2 shocking games, Yeovil and Lincoln (?), but then the whole team did too!
(I don't recall him having any other bad games?)
They were both, especially Lincoln, great learning curves as we couldn't get any worse and the rest is history.
Reliable fullback.
Just say NO to drugs m8.would be tempted to play him as a winger in front of sterling
Robins don’t..palCompletely disagree pal. I think he has everything needed and would only get better with games and experience
Robins don’t..pal
Maybe so, I believe he was injured early part of the season, Sterling improved a lot, got injured himself, which coincided with our poor form after the 5 wins on the trot. Was dogshit at Burton away this season
are his fitness problems weight and alcohol related by any chance?Maybe so, I believe he was injured early part of the season, Sterling improved a lot, got injured himself, which coincided with our poor form after the 5 wins on the trot.
Grimmer was not match fit coming back from injury.
We even put Thompson at RBack due to Grimmers fitness problems and that didn't work out well!
Think you're being a bit harsh calling him dogshit.
I didn't mean for it to sound as negative as that it appears it has come across. He was a good player for us last year, I really liked him, I just thought there were limitations that might mean he could struggle this season, however, he hasn't really been given the chance to prove that either way. Having said that, I don't think many would believe he could have done as good a job as Sterling, but then there is the trade off between playing a loanee and playing your own player. It would appear to me that Robins has decided he isn't in his long-term plans. Also as a side note he's 25 not 22.Tbf he was voted L2 team of the year by his fellow pros and was in a promotion winning side. Also only 22 so certainly not the finished article. Do you think the off the field uncertainty plays a part in his decision? It must to an extent surely?
Must have been obvious to him Robins didn't rate him when Robins brought a loanee in, rather than try to develop him further.

Totally agree, great lad and the type of person you want in the squad but MR clearly hasn’t seen anything more in him this year to step up. Either Chelsea had a demand that he plays every game if fit or Grimmer hasn’t shown enough to get into the team. The obvious question is that we need to find a replacement for both sterling and grim now which might be a feat in itselfHe's a lovely bloke but as a right back he was beaten to the byline far too easily even in L2 - just lacking speed over a yard or two.
