Really? Was offered £12,000 a week at Derby which Cardiff weren't prepared to match apparently.

If somebody offered you a job on 300 quid a week and then somebody else 3,500 a week would you turn it down? A footballer's career is short.

He employs his agent to get him the best deals possible for him and his family, this is why he leaves it to the agent.

The way I see it though, the difference between £300 to £3,500 is massive and that extra cash will make a huge difference to the quality of that persons life. If that is the situation then yes you would take the 3.5k as it is the difference between financially struggling and living in luxury

Mcgoldrick has likely been earning 500-750k (guess) a year at Nottingham Forest for 4 seasons or so, is the difference between earning 5k at Cov and 10k at another club really going to improve the quality of life so much that money should be the only consideration and be all, end all?

Being a footballer should be about creating and leaving a legacy behind, he could sign here play for us 3 or 4 years and go down in the Coventry history record books as the guy who fired 30 goals to promote us out of our lowest position for 40 years and be remembered fondly by fans

Or he could sign for another club where it is a risk he may not settle, be a bit part player and not be the key man where the team is built around. He floats around a few championship clubs not really doing much and in 4 or 5 years time he is 30 years old and ends up on loan at another league 1 club. Having said that he could go and be great at another club but it is a risk

I just really dislike the fact that for most players it comes down to mostly money, it is hardly like Mcgoldrick would be living in poverty if he signed for Cov

The way I see it is quite simple. He has a choice. He can choose to stay with us. Or he can go with the highest bidder no choice my arse. It's not up to his agent. Thanks David but if you don't want to stay then don't bother dressing it up. Just admit you're a greedy modern day footballer who will accept the highest bidder and we can move on eh?!

Exactly. I know footballers careers are short, but the money they can make is beyond a normal person's comprehension.

5 grand a week? Astronomical.

He stays here and here could be a legend carried round the streets of Coventry on the shoulders of adoring fans.

I always admired Steve Bull at Wolves. Loads of offers to go elsewhere for more money, but he was happy where he was and remained loyal.

DMC has a great thing going on here. He could go elsewhere and completely flop.

Is that a fact or is it Derby folklore? There's also a difference that he was making a move to the league, slightly different if you comparing DMc signing for us and turning down a championship club.

So you have no facts at all to back up your original claim, just guesswork, yet ask me to back up with facts?

I read that he'd been offered £12,000 a week by Derby, more than Cardiff were willing to pay, though newspapers not always accurate.

He might well want to stay but unless CCFC put in an offer that meets Forest's expectations then he wont be given the choice to come here before the end of the season and the end of his contract. With his form the price hasnt been going down despite 6 months left on contract.

In the mean time if nothing sorted Forest would have a player sitting around who has added to his worth up to this point, which will devalue if not playing.... and McGoldrick has a choice sit around go or play for someone who has made a satisfactory offer to Forest. Neither Forest or McGoldrick would want it not dealt with in January, they want a return on him - he wants to be playing. Forest wont be looking to do us any favours financially but neither do they want to keep paying out for a player they do not rate and whose contract is nearly done. McG only gets a good contract at another club if he is playing/scoring - no player really wants to sit on the bench for 6 months (including Westwood)

So in a real sense the decision is not his to make initially. The ball is firmly in CCFC's court as to whether they can make a deal with Forest that is as good as any other offers ........... then they need to make a deal with McG that tempts him........... then he and his agent can decide

another thought is that if no acceptable offer received by Forest for him they send him out on loan to a Championship team who can pick up all his wages (something I doubt we can) ......... wouldnt have thought likely because anything over £100k is probably going to be too rich for us but easy money for a club in the division above and still leave them money to pay him.

We might not get him but I am sure MR has a plan B, C and D that is achievable

I at least put up some references to back up my arguments, yet to see any from you apart from hearsay?

You just can take the word of some random Derby fans on his wages, but going by the variations on what players earn here from our own fans wouldn't put too much credence on it.

I'm sure he would loved to of stayed an take a pay cut and help pull us out of this league.

Derby offered the most, we accepted, they then got the chance to formally talk to him offered him a deal which would have increased his wages. He signed.

Did we accept a bid from any other club?

Think it only relates to football debts.

If it applied to other, non-footballing debts, just about every club in the World would have a transfer embargo!
