People are still queuing up to buy championship football clubs before administration, no matter how much debt they have

Sky sources understand Bolton owner Eddie Davies is hoping to decide who will be buying the club before the weekend after entering a period of exclusivity with a potential buyer.

The club wants an agreement in place by the end of Friday, before they defend a winding up petition at the High Court in London on Monday

They must pay £3m tax bill owed to HMRC or risk being placed in administration, and face a 12-point deduction. The new ownership would still need to pass the Football League criteria.

Do they own their own / long lease the ground and benefit from 100% income generated there? According to wiki they own it, makes a difference buying something which owns a number assets , rather than us that has a training ground and sole bibs....

Why? That's exactly what Don was fishing for? If you could negotiated down for pence in the pound a company that owns a number of assets including their ground to one that doesn't, which would you choose?

The owner is writing off £175M in any deal.
Come on Sisu do the same and let someone else have a go.

If your going to make your fans drool, why go for a 12,500 seater stadium?
Okay, it didn't stop a few.

The EPL is a treasure trove nowadays. Multi-millions in the coffers even for abject failure. That's the reason certain people want a football club (along with those who are rich enough to have one as a plaything or those that have a 'look at me' complex). Most of us know that running a club isn't going to make anyone rich - who was the last owner to make a big bunce? - but the potential must be there or every club in the land would be community owned.

I am sure they are.

Are any of the grounds council owned and the council in question would only consider bids from hedge funds who were prepared to purchase without ground ownership.

More trolling - nothing to see here.

it was the before administration bit. I was actually talking about.
I am surprised they don't wait to get it cheaper.
Unless that much debt is getting written off it wouldn't be any cheaper in administration?

I think it may be the other way round. Put it this way, if Grendel were to leave the forum there's a few posters that would never post again. The obsession with him, by some on here is bordering on the weird.

So our business model should be based on someone pumping money into the club and then quietly leaving when their running has run out before repeating the cycle?

Best not to mention that as it won't "fit".

I do wonder why actually. They always seemed a half decently run club with promise.

Overpriced, or things under Morgan not run as well as they should be?

I don't think any of those clubs are on the verge of administration.
I am amazed that people buy championship clubs prior to them going into administration. Surely it would make more sense to buy them afterwards?

Why? You're almost certainly going to get 2 point deductions and get relegated. Plus you have to pay ?p in a £1, whereas buying beforehand they can just do an "IOU if we ever play on the moon" like sisu did either Robinson et al. Plus you might not win the bidding process through admin process, or may over pay if there's a lot of interested. Lots more reasons too.

So you think lots of people would be interested in clubs in Administration and you may end up paying more than pre administration?

This is what we should be worrying about – the Premier League effectively becoming a closed shop for the 20 teams in it, plus about 10 who have been in it.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35587016

The TV money totally overshadows everything else. Some clubs are at least on the pavement outside, enviously looking into the sweet shop and knocking on the door – but we’ve spent the last few years two streets away having an argument
