I actually agree with @GIMOC tbf, last season we had the excuse of gelling, this season we just seem to be all over the place. There’s no clear play style, we’re easy to defend against, weak when we’re pressed, wasteful with chances, maybe I’m being a bit harsh seeing as it’s only 4 games into the season but I really don’t like what I’ve seen so far.

Very good Do you not think it’s been piss poor so far though? Really can’t see any patterns of play or any ideas of what to do when we’re pressed, it’s all very “cross and hope”. It’s only 4 games in and Sheaf yet to be back (which will obviously make a difference) but I don’t think you need to be a notorious SBT bedwetter to see that we really need to improve our performances.

It’s not been piss poor though has it. We were excellent against Oxford and OK v Bristol and for 45 minutes yesterday. Could be better of course but “it’s all been piss poor” is just lazy.

So in 6 games 1 good performance (that we were fortunate to win) and 1.5 "ok" performances in your mind is what?

thats because they were sat on their phones furiously hitting refresh waiting for our new £5m midfielder to be announced, when that didn’t happen the consternation set in and things like Simms’ misses & Bidwell getting skinned most of the game were deemed to be of little relevance.

Agreed! Not worried about results this early but am really upset about what seems no plan, lack of energy, no pressing, something is not right somewhere. We a 4.5million on a player that is comfortable playing on the left wing and coming in to the forwards and we dont play in there? We play Wright in a left wing position and starve him of the ball! We managed to get Tats & Van-eyvak going as a unit and the resultant crosses are great but no forward is coming in? I could carry on but MR is the manager and needs to sort it

Agreed the back bone of Wilson Mcnally Fadz Doyle Hamer Sheaf and Gyokeres was our strongest in 20 odd years.

I've consistently said we need a new right sided centre back and a midfielder that has aggression and will make it horrible for opponents.

We aren't that far away in my opinion. But the club didn't sign a centre back or a centre mid and its now evident we need those 2 positions strengthening.

I do believe we will ultimately achieve promotion but in a season or 2. It won't be with because of Torp, Eccles, Thomas, Binks these lads for me just haven't got what it takes but will ultimately be with us along the journey.

But we gotta stay faithful and keep putting pressure on the club and players because at the end of the day we have seen Hamer, Gyok, O'Hare or move on and they can't be replaced, Sheaf will be next if we are not quick to improve on our weaknesses.

The new lad Bassette looks like our new main man, I think that is a major success from our scouts. His energy and tenacity coupled with his desire to want to fight and press will set him apart from Simms.

Love Simms but when you look at Gyokeres, he had no one of any quality on the wings, yet he would pick the ball up from deep turn and charge at opponents, this is desire and a hunger to want to create something from nothing and I see exactly that in Bassette.

Simms needs to improve on this. This is just desire and hunger to be the main man and take the game by the scruff. I don't see this in Simms. Simms is a fantastic player but ultimately you can't beat hard work and mentality.

If I'm Robins our next Fixture I would try
Wright Simms Bassette
And play Sakamoto in front of Sheaf and Rudoni.

His defensive qualities are good he just can't pass a ball six yards. We play out from the back and Thomas simply can't do this. So you either don't play out from the back and play him or you buy a centre back better than him with the ball at their feet and can defend on par with Bobby.

Knee jerk as usual! Bidwell had a poor game undoubtedly, but if Da Silvas sloppy pass at the end of the game had led to a goal as it easily could have you would have been singing a different tune.

I wouldn’t have. Bidwell has been at fault for nearly all goals conceded.

not knee jerk at all, anyone can see he’s not been good enough

offers nothing going forward too, not technically good enough to play a possession based style, time for JDS

Kind of makes sense weirdly, play 2 in midfield. Sheaf and then let Torp, Rudoni, Eccles battle it out for the second place. Don't need to play Allen unless emergency.

Front three from Wright, Simms, Emc, BTA, Bassette and Sakamoto. MVE and Da Silva/Bidwell wing backs, Lati, Thomas and Kitching/Binks in defence.

You’ve got an additional defender though. Centre backs who can play through the lines, perfect wing backs and Bassette/BTA and definitely Wright could be very good inside forwards. Wright already is

not saying it’s the right alternative, but it’s an option to go 5. We never go a season without a formation change

It's a difficult one, if your weak in an area do you overload that area with even more shit players in hope lots of shit makes something less shit.

Or bypass it and focus the play in other areas where you are stronger and have better players.

If we got five at the back we’ve got to go three in the middle IMO. And then all we’ve done is remove a forward and put a CB in.

Part of our issue rn is the midfield coming deep and leaving a huge gap to the strikers. I’ve still got PTSD from when the “box” became 54——-1

The point is that when players are not picked (for usually good reason) some supporters conveniently forget their faults that led to them being dropped in the first place. Dasilva made a lot of defensive errors last season that directly led to goals and received a lot of heavy criticism - possibly including from you. He made a horrendous pass from defence at the end of yesterdays goal which he was very fortunate didn't lead to a goal - did you see it?

On that basis Dasilva isn't 100% certain to be first choice from now on, as he's as likely (more likely maybe) to cause us to concede a goal as Bidwell. The likelihood is that he might well replace Bidwell in the next match, but once he makes a few howlers you will be calling for him to be dropped and replaced by Bidwell. The real shame is we didn't make a go at signing McCallum, because in truth neither Bidwell or Dasilva currently fill me with confidence, but between the 2 I feel more comfortable defensively with Bidwell in the team than Dasilva.
