I think after that run of games against Sunderland and Ipswich there was zero doubt in my mind we were going to win it.

We finished the season five points clear - that would probably have people today soaking their sheets like it was Splash Mountain.

Yes the run of 1-0s against top end opposition had me convinced. The 'home' games against Pompey and Sunderland were both very tight with us coming out the right side of it. When we won at Ipswich I knew we were up for sure.

Surprised at the amount of headloss given our last title run was only six years ago!

Without checking, which title race do people think was closer between this one and the L1 19/20 season?

We didnt lose a big lead that year. We came up on the rails.
So while this year ultimately should be a far more convincing win, (as much as we can ascertain that given 19/20 was curtailed), losing that lead caused a lot of concern.

Our away record was poor pre Christmas in 19/20, I think I might be right to say we hadnt won a game away, and there was a lot of head loss after we got beat at Shrewsbury.
We got it back on track over the holiday, winning at Tranmere and Wycombe, and never looked back.

Two Godden hatricks in consecutive games from what I remember.

Tbf there's being concerned, then there's wanting a manager that has a win% well over 50% sacked. Some absolute drama queens on here sometimes. Having said that, we all care and are really invested in our club. Understandable to have overreactions to certain situations.

How many posters wanted him sacked though, wasn't many.

I remember looking at the time and posting it on here, (might have been on the Shrewsbury thread), and as far as I went back, can't remember how many seasons, no team had been promoted with an away record as bad as ours, though obviously we sorted it.

Though you're right, lots of draws.

Conversely, we had an excellent home record, just 1 defeat.

Missed the game with an outrageous hangover. Think it was when we first wore the 2tone top, though I may be wrong.

Tbf I think some we're testing the waters without saying it with their chests. Not that it matters now though, I think Lampard has had to do more to win some people over than it should have taken, but surely everyone is there now? He'll be a hero for all of us when he takes us up. Getting out of this league as a non-parachute club is an incredible achievement, nevermind potentially doing it as league winners with games to spare.

Just 3 defeats all season, although cut slightly short admittedly I'm still not sure we'd have lost more than 1 more maximum. Was a great effort, a memorable season.

You only become a legend or a hero after achieving something , not because you had a great half season

If lampard takes us up he sits at the top table , said it many times already

Well he has actually changed my mind based on our recent form .

I had concerns based off an article id read that showed lampard struggled to turn things around when they werent going well at both everton and chelsea .

Understandably worrying when we were in the midst of an indifferent 14 game spell

But hes just turned us around in the most tremendous fashion .. so i have now seen that he can make things right

Weve won 8 of our last 11 games

I think it would be weird to sack lampard if we go up and dont stay up because we already have a manager that can get us promoted

Im semi hoping his past experiences and the quality of the coaching staff now will be a huge benefit to our survival effort

So is it safe to assume that if I knock at your door to talk about our lord and savior Frank Lampard, you would invite me in for tea and biscuits rather than send me packing into the cold night?

Evidently not given what has happened this season?

My position was we’d got very unfortunate in several games, but the underlying metrics never really dropped off so there wasn’t much to worry about and we’d eventually start winning again. Which is exactly what happened, needless to say I had the last laugh.

I'm sorry, but we never won away for 3 months and dropped 10 points from winning positions.

We were poor for large spells in a lot of those games.
Anyone saying they weren't concerned is either a liar or a fool.

Lampard clearly saw the issues which is why we made the signings we did in January.

Throughout all this, our home form remained top class, but wouldn't have been enough on its own.

We were 17th in the form table over 14 games which is a third of a season .

The idea fans were mad to be worried is frankly batshit crazy

Everyone had a right to be worried about our form…just as much as those of us who remained calm had a right to voice their opinion.

It’s the just the performative claptrap that some posters come out with that irks sometimes - “Taxi for xxx” “This is the new Sutton” etc

Not wishing to keep going over old ground, but stuff like "I don't think we are going to do it" or "we look a poor side right now", or "Lampard seems to have lost the plot at the moment", or "I reckon we have been found out", are a world away from the season has ended and "It's a shame it's ended this way."

Concern is fine and questioning is fine, but sweeping statements of how the season has already ended with 15 games still to play, is all just rather ridiculous.

Some were suggesting FL wasn't good enough and should be sacked. Now we are hailing him as one of our best ever managers. All within a couple of months.

It's lunacy really.

Any outsider reading the threads would be having a right old chuckle at us

I always try and stay grounded. Even when the chips are down.

Wasn't certain we would turn it around, but was confident that we could with just a few tweaks to our personnel

Keep the faith. PUSB
