Think we were lucky to have the team we had last season and how good they were. Was always going to be difficult to replace the big 2 departures and while we were never going to get like for like replacements, the big money signings so far have been very underwhelming.

I for one am certainly feeling very deflated about things at the moment and certainly don’t get the excitement of going to games like last season.

no disrespect to the guy, but it says everything about our transfer business/ state of play , when I’m looking forward to having Jamie Allen back in the team

To be honest I don’t think our actual ‘team’ was even that good. Yes Hamer and Gyokeres were class and basically carried us.

O’Hare was injured most of the season
McNally only joined end of Jan
Godden, Dabo & Kelly were injured for a lot of it
We had Walker and Waghorn
We couldn’t believe our luck that Wilson kept that many clean sheets but a lot of those games he didn’t actually have anything to do, yes he did pull off some superb saves at times and scored the goal that to be honest put us in the playoffs

Let’s not just think of it as a total success… We had A LOT of dead wood in that team.

Like Robins says, building a whole new team takes time to get them to gel and work out how they all compliment eachother. Keep the faith

I’ve had time to reflect on Wednesday’s performance and it probably wasn’t as bad as people are making out. Ok, we have some very very(!) flat spells, but we did create chances. There’s more to be done, absolutely, but I don’t think we’re miles off where we need to be performance-wise.

As ever, I’ve dived into a stats-hole and looked at our xG at both ends, amongst other things. In terms of Attacking xG (i.e. goals we ‘should’ have scored) we’re 9th on 18.6 (vs actual goals of 17). We’re joint-2nd on ‘Big Chances Missed’ with 22 of them already. This suggests finishing is the issue which I don’t think is unreasonable. We’re seemingly missing the easier chances and scoring from more difficult opportunities.

On the defensive side of things, our Defensive xG is the 2nd best in the league on 12.7, only behind Leicester. However, we’ve conceded 16 which suggests either our opponents are finishing chances brilliantly, or there are question marks over the keeper. To the eye, Wilson seems to be having a reasonable season but his ‘Goals Prevented’ is -1.8, meaning he’s letting in perceived easier chances than an average keeper. He massively overperformed on this metric last season, but is languishing at 16th in the league this year.

In short, both ends of the pitch are underperforming but fundamentally we don’t seem to be set up that poorly. Few minor tweaks (I still favour going to the box) and we should be looking better.

Edit: interesting addition to the above - the only games where the opposition have outperformed us on xG are Middlesbrough (won 3-0) and Hull (drew 1-1).

Jeez! We’re all disappointed especially with the last 2 results. I don’t think it was necessarily the manner of how we lost on Wednesday night but who we lost against, but that is the Championship in a nutshell unfortunately.
Over the last few seasons the bond between players and fans has added to our success-it seems to me that some people are now already at this early stage throwing that away.

I don't know, they differed massively for some reason. His stats included the playoff games which will have had an effect.

I'm happy to trust fbref though as that's what I've always used and has been very reliable.

It is bollocks to be fair. To all intents and purposes, Simms headed chance in our second halfwas our best chance of the game. But XG was only 0.04 according for footystats, and Goddens chance (from a replay I didn't even think he touched it) in the 3rd minute was 0.40 XG.

When you looked at our strongest side from last season

--------------------Wilson
----McNally----Fadz----Doyle
Cuffy ----Sheaf---Hamer---Bidwell
-------------o'Hare--Allen
------------------Gyokeres

Subs: Moore, Dabo, Eccles, Godden, Panzo, Palmer, Walker, Kelly, Wilson-Esbrand

Only Wilson, Fadz and Sheaf from our strongest team have actually been playing regularly. Hopefully in 3-4 games we will get both Allen and O'Hare fit and starting again and at least then we will have a core of 5 from last season's strongest team.

I've never read such pessimistic crap in ages. Yes, we sold two important players but recouped a club record and utterly incredible warchest for Robins to rebuild with. Is it certain CoH is going ? He's saying his contract talks are with his agent but that is what most players tend to do. For all you know, he's given his agent a set of requirements and now it's between the club and the agent. How about reading that as he wants to concentrate on playing football, rather than the politics of contract negotiations ? He's not repeating Hamer's attitude of keeping people guessing and he's not refusing contracts (that we've been told about).

But looking positively at a situation isn't a Sky Blues fans natural way of dealing with things, is it ? The only thing you have accurately said is that the Playoff Final was the season finale. Surprisingly, that's how the EFL planned it, to be the last game of the season.

Shmmeee, surprised at you as this isn't the first negative post you've made this season and you're usually far more positive than this. And you're not alone. The amount and quality of posts on this forum has diminished since the Playoff Final. If it's that upsetting and depressing, think it's time to give social media a rest and just enjoy each day as it comes.

A couple of months ago, I said to give the team 10 games to gel and honestly, we're definitely in a worse position than I expected. But I'm not screaming negativity from the parapets. I'm prepared to either celebrate the wins or walk away and live life if we lose. This season, we'll win as many as we lose. We'll continue to grow back stronger and will keep up with DK's 5 year plan. Just don't expect world beaters when we replace more than half the squad each season. Even Man Utd and Arsenal struggle when rebuilding and their finances are a bit better than ours. We are defending stoutly but just letting in poor goals. Our midfield is creating chances (23 shots but only 7 on target against Rotherham) but our strikers are currently letting us down.

Had a similar experience with IAPT (NHS Mental Health Support) six years ago. Was sent an emotion-based questionnaire and got a followup call. Call was late, interviewer was terse and never allowed me to give context to my answers. End of the call, she sounded either bored or couldn't be arsed. I ended the call in tears, much worse than when I'd answered the call.

As it happens, I was calling about support for my social anxiety (at my GPs request). I can only say that it was a good job that I wasn't phoning about having suicidal thoughts.

If you’ve never watched one of those HITC videos then please do, the geezer’s voice that does the videos is so dull and monotone, almost quite funny at times, and I know I’m found of a comma but there’s wayyyy too many in his monologues.

“So what has happened at Coventry City? As you all know, or I hope you do, Coventry, a city of around 300,000, is located in the West Midlands, just east of Birmingham. But why have they performed so poorly? Well, to say the least, or to not put too fine a point on it, they have, some would say, had a strange purchasing strategy. The club wanted to generate revenue, as well as points of course, but their strikers, or forwards, as well as many others, didn’t live up to, or come anywhere near to, the expectations many fans, or even the manager, hoped would be achieved from the highlight reels they watched.”

I know I write a fair chunk when I’m arguing the toss but that guy just waffles on and on and on. Could literally sum up a 30 min HITC video in 5 mins

My IAPT assessment went so well I was on the phone for three times the length of the scheduled appointment and at the end the guy asked me if I needed a crisis contact number to phone in an emergency

Then I spent just over 2 years on a waiting list to have a handful of therapy sessions with a therapist so overworked he very clearly couldn't remember what had been spoken about in previous sessions

A lot of the negative posts being made now, are just regurgitated version of posts made at multiple points last season, and the season before that, and the season before that, so forth. And look at how last season turned out. Not worth taking seriously.

Thought robins nailed it in pre match conference for wba game.

We were one kick away from the premier League. Was always gonna be something that takes time to move on from with hurdles along the way

He seems confident we will get back on track and eventually make the prem so that will do for me.

It's complete tokenism, they talk about parity of esteem for mental and physical health but I'm not sure you'd find many physical health services provided by the voluntary sector for an absolute pittance with unqualified staff.
