I think our recruitment team have done a great job this summer and we are rightly all looking forward to the season ahead.

however when you quickly scan down the squads of even teams expected to finish in the lower half you quickly realise that what Robin’s says is spot on .... success for us is avoiding relegation this season !!.

Agreed, but not sure that even despite all the individual talents, that a lot of those squads have the togetherness and momentum that we had last season. This should hopefully hold us in good stead and hopefully our team is greater than the sum of its parts.

And this time last season, success was pushing for a play off spot.
I dont think we've got a massively strong squad. Not saying we're a weak or poor squad, just inexperienced and virtually none of our players have ever played in this league before (Just Allen and McFadzean if im correct, and they both got relegated from it last time they played there with Burton). I think what will help us is there are a lot of other shit/weak teams in the league. With the likes of Wycombe, Luton, Burnley, Blues, QPR, Reading and add Wednesdays point dedution, i think we'll be okay. Im not saying we'll run away with the league or be "good" in it, just not as bad as some others.

One of the biggest things is what will happen if/when we lose a few in a row or take a thrashing somewhere- this team have literally never experienced a bad run before, confidence has to be sky high but thats a fragile thing, don't really know who the 'leaders' are off the pitch, but they're gonna have a huge role to play if & when things get tough.

Survival is all that matters this year. Given how well we did last season I hope we’ve got enough about us and maybe surprise a few people.
Think we might get a couple of kick-ins along the way mind.
Good luck everyone!

I think you're bang on with that. That togetherness is a big part of the reason that we've risen over the past 3 seasons. It's amazing that we've kept such a good feeling around the squad with the turnover of players, so all credit to the manager and staff for that.

Totally agree
If we stay up it will be an amazing achievement.

I thing some of the more optimistic in our support are banking on the unusual circumstances, BCDs etc, being a bit of a leveller, and who knows, they might be right but for me, survival is the goal.

I've seen people saying we will be dark horses, I will be happy for survival.

Have a look at Watford's squad for example.

I think something that will help us out is that we, along with Rotherham and Wycombe, will be the only clubs to have increased revenue this season. It may not have been by as much as it could have been but we at least were able to do some early recruitment, investing the squad and improve in key areas. transfer business elsewhere has been nowhere near as joined up as ours.

I think that we will do better than most people think. Our football last season was good enough to compete with many in this league. Of course we will get beaten by some teams, but I think many will be surprised. We have a good defense, but scoring enough is my main concern. Hopefully Baka and Max can get a few from the bench.

I think we will be thereabouts and push for promotion next season.

The togetherness is a massive thing. How many players have we lost from the entire of last years first team squad? Practically no one. They are all back for more this year.

Team work and spirit will generally beat the teams who rely on a handful of individuals that are more talented, but it means we will have to work very hard. If we do start losing it will be difficult because no one is used to is (fucking strange thing to say as a Cov fan).

It's going to be an interesting season I think. Any 3 points we get I will celebrate like mad though! I thought I had grown out of it a bit when I remembered how excited I got when we beat Forest etc, but I actually think it was just a result of us playing in the lower leagues which sucked the life out a bit. Cannot wait for tomorrow. Genuinely pumped.

We are no worse than the likes of Luton/Barnsley were last season and they managed to stay up. Add the other teams that came up from league 1 with us this season along with Sheff Wednesday on -12 and we should have more than enough to keep us up.

Look at Blackburn. They have lost Danny Graham and Dominic Samuel. Basically signed no one either.

Looks like Mowbray's blasting off again!

Yep, still am. Lots of things to get right but there is no reason to be morbidly afraid as some seem to be. Anyway Its you who started off by telling all & sundry "People are in for a wake up call at the weekend, I know what is waiting", before predicting a 1-1

If we start well I also said start how we did last week tho

the key to this season is how fast & we’ll Hamer adapts next to Kelly I think he will do well but he’s got big boots to fill in a tougher league.

Although we lost 3-0 I felt the score flattered Watford in the League Cup last season and our team is considerably stronger now than that night. I seem to remember they had at least some of their first team out that night.

OK I am being optimistic!

We have the added bonus of young hungry players chomping at the bit and not comfortable seasoned players taking home a pay packet

The standard, Systems+technology have changed massively across the board but I think back to the late 70'searly 80's and that young squad surviving and their occasional cup upsets,
it can be done.
