It will be interesting to see if the protesters in London on the 11th of November observe a minutes silence at 11am.
For clarification I think what's happening in Gaza is absolutely horrendous and I hope a peaceful resolution can be found as soon as possible, but it will not be done by marching around London every weekend... that's more about radical Islam anyway in my opinion.

Oh definitely. I saw the march last week, one guy pinched a tube of mentos from an off-licence and the baying mob cut his hands off in broad daylight.

I think the far rights issue with pro Palestine protests is that it's alot of brown Muslims in one place. They could be singing god save the king and it would still scare them.

Because he's a thug, fraudster, liar, and racist, and seems to delight in violence.

None of those things apply to the vast majority of the people marching against Israel's actions in Gaza, unless I've missed something. What's your point?

I really think this situation, the attack by Hamas and the response by Israel, has stirred up a hornet's nest.

I can see things getting very much out of hand and there being lots of reprisals.

It's going to get ugly I feel.

Yeah and tbf I wouldn't be heading for any protest on November 11th because it seems doomed to be inflammatory

Unfortunately I agree. I just can’t see how the continued marches will do anything other than cause unrest.

The police said they allowed some of the stuff that could be considered hate crimes/unlawful* ride at the last march as arrests at the time could have been inflammatory and that they would follow up with arrests after the event. I kind of get it. Unfortunately though this will lead to more of the same next time as people would’ve seen these behaviours go unchallenged at the time. This is also likely to lead to far right nutters using this as an excuse to react, especially if there’s a march on 11 Nov

*I know a vast majority of the marchers/protesters will be well meaning, peaceful protesters, genuinely only wanting a ceasefire but ultimately it’s the minority that end up on Twitter, TV etc

Always the problem with every protest isn't it, people opposed will jump on the minority of nutters in order to discredit.

Makes November 11th a very naive choice however!

It is random watching people excuse things for one set of people but would be against it if somebody else did it.

What better day to sing anti Jew songs and promote hate for them than remembrance Day. May as well cover all the poppies with Palestine flags too.

Bit of a weird take.

What anti-Jew songs?

It’s an anti war protest. Remembrance Day seems apt.

I'm sure that the protesters on November the 11th won't get anywhere near the Cenotaph, that area will be cordoned off in preparation for remembrance Sunday....and rightly so in my opinion.
Also worthwhile mentioning that the EDL are being encouraged to meet in large numbers on the 11th...it could be a very horrible day.

Yes. Mainly peaceful.

I'm not saying it's a protest that entirely makes sense, or one that I'd support (think of the poor mice), but I'm not seeing any violence here. Am I missing something?

Because Rememberance Day isn't to glorify war or wave the flag - it's to remember those who died.

Being outraged by a peaceful march on the same day isn't something I can understand, it in no way disrespects the idea.

It's to remember British and Commonwealth Soldiers.

As I said, feel free to stroll around with Nazi flags because a hell of a lot of nazis have died in wars too.

I am sure when they are spray painting on War Memorial statues it will be peaceful or if anybody challenges them they will be "racists".

I am sure the Jihad chants will be very respectful too.

If we start shutting down the right to peacefully assemble and protest because it *might* cause unrest, we're on a bit of a slippery slope.

In fairness to the police, they seem a bit less reactionary than the home secretary on this one. It's almost like they understand the law and the need to balance opposing rights.

And no, I'm not in any way advocating terrorising Jewish people anywhere because of the actions of the Israeli state, that's as unacceptable as assuming every Muslim supports Hamas.

It's way past slippery slope already though, isn't it?

Can you not see how it will cause unrest and how it is seen as disrespectful?

Are we still allowed to remember the British soldiers that died in Palestine between 1945 and 1948? Killed by Jews trying to establish a Jewish state by forced occupation.

Get real mate. A march to call for a ceasefire in Gaza has fuck all to do with wearing Nazis uniforms, disrespecting Rememberance day, or spraying things on war memorials. Who is advocating that?

"They died to protect our freedom", is a phrase I hear a lot on that day. That includes the freedom to protest, whether you or I like it or not.

This fake "respect for the armed forces" stuff gets on my tits somewhat; as previous I'd imagine half the people complaining about 'disrespect' have never been to a Rememberance ceremony in any case.

I don't remember too much discussion on here about the "military covenant", or any great outrage about the number of homeless people who are ex-services.

And as for unrest, the last one seemed to pass off without any major issues, didn't it?

If there is trouble, it'll likely be stirred up by a few EDL dickheads and my guess is that that's where the police will focus. It's crap, but that's not a good enough reason to override the fundamental right to peaceful protest, imho.

It’s amazing how after asking the forum on Monday if some Twitter headbanger’s rant about these marches was accurate, you’re suddenly an expert on what these marches are all about just two days later.

The ‘For You’ tab is really working hard on you, I can tell.

Erm, war memorials have been sprayed in the past couple of weeks.

I am pointing out that it has as much to do with remembrance day as rocking up in a nazi uniform.

Yeah you tried that earlier.

It's nothing to do with a "for you" tab. I'm hardly an expert to have to know about spray paint on war statues.

If I relied on people on here for facts, I'd be wearing a Palestine Away shirt by the end of the week.

This is the thing isn't it, if there's trouble it will all be the fault of the EDL people.

OK do you think it is reasonable for someone to have concern for what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank? Do you think it reasonable to support the EDL.
