Although I wouldn’t agree to it didn’t Starmer say he’d recognise a Palestine State? As he’s buddies with Macron I’m amazed he hasn’t made a speech tonight declaring solidarity.

No chance of that, he's too subservient to old Don.

At least you’ll now have a party firmly on the side of Palestine. Have you signed up yet?

Has anyone on here at any point said they don't want the hostages freed? Not sure Israel dropping bombs on places they think the hostages are being held is doing much to increase their chances of survival.

Might be easier to get them back through diplomacy instead of mass murder and destruction

Genuine question, how many hostages are still unaccounted for?

As with most things that hardly get mentioned its because nobody disagrees. Someone says the hostages should be freed, everyone agrees so you only get a couple of posts and thats it.

Someone says bombing hospitals and shooting kids is wrong and you get people coming on arguing that it isn't and even if it is we shouldn't complain about it, which then means there's pages and pages of posts.

It's also quite likely that a few hostages have been killed during the IDF's destruction of civilian buildings, or more indirectly as a result of the attacks on medical facilities and personnel.

59 Israeli hostages in total, 24 believed to be alive.

Hard to get exact figures for the number held by Israel but the latest figure I can find is over 4,000 held without charge or trial.

They absolutely do, and there have been protests in this country. I believe there was one at the Chinese embassy earlier this month if memory serves. There's people pushing for our government to do more but the governments response tends to be that discussions are taking place behind closed doors which makes it hard to establish what, if anything, is being done. There are people campaigning for more to be done, Rahima Mahmut who is on that podcast is very prominent figure among them.

I think there's a couple of things that lead to you reading about it less. Firstly the government here have declared it a genocide in parliament, something they refuse to do with Gaza which is a cause for a lot of online discourse.

Secondly there's a lot of very graphic footage that comes out of Gaza despite Israel's attempts to stop reporting, China have been far more successful in stopping reporting and sadly for a lot of people its a case of out of sight, out of mind.

There's also I think a case of fatigue. There is so many horrific things going on in the world that people can be overwhelmed. When that happens people gravitate to the cause they believe they have the greatest chance of being able to effect change.

Sadly probably true but I think people feel they can have at least a minimal impact with Gaza. Look at the pressure on Starmer currently to recognise a Palestinian state. Would that be happening if everyone just accepted genocide was inevitable and stayed silent? There's also a feeling that the UK is not doing enough to stop arming Israel, providing intelligence, providing support such as refuelling flights and training the troops.

There are things that can be done but we're stuck with Trump which makes things difficult. We're a long way from the days of Regan making one call to Begin and the bombing stopping.

With Uyghur there's sanctions in place, although many would argue they don't go anywhere near far enough. But for a lot of people at that stage it probably becomes more complex as you're dealing with the detail of sanctions rather than a simpler rallying call for the genocide to be acknowledged.

Anyway someone said that’s not genocide - a bit like cultural genocide by forcing them to speak Chinese

More footage has emerged of the IDF taking pot shots at crowds of people queuing for food at the US-Israeli organised ‘humanitarian’ relief stations.

It seems the organisation is actually just a scam created to allow the IDF to murder people for sport

Workers rights enhancements are generally seen as left wing as they rebalance power from capital to labour.

Green energy investments are generally seen as left wing as they involve redistributing tax revenue on large scale public projects.

Planning reform is not seen as left wing as its removing regulations, but the left doesn’t have a solution for the building crisis so I’ll take it.

Pouring billions extra into public services like the NHS is left wing as again it involves using government funds to provide public goods accessible for all.

Nationalising rail is generally seen as left wing as it’s public ownership of a public service.

Taxing private education is generally seen as left wing as it promoted universal state education and raises public funds.

Tell you what, if you can make a convincing case this government is more right wing than any previous government. I’ll give you an internet point.

Not sure if I mentioned this the other day but they had a doctor in Gaza on the news and he was talking about how they are pretty sure the IDF are playing a game shooting kids as every day the kids that are coming in have all been shot in a different body part. So one day it will be shoulder, one day leg etc etc.

Also saw a report yesterday and the reporter was on a hill that overlooks Gaza from the Israel side. I posted previously about how those telescopes like you get at the beach had been installed so Israelis can watch the bombing. They've now installed vending machines. Can't be going hungry or thirsty while you're watching starving people being shot and bombed.

Yes I saw the report on the vending machines. Full fat Coke for Netanyahu I assume, Diet Coke for his orange assistant
