FA Cup win has always been the thing the club for decades was associated with as the greatest achievement.

But the fall and rise of the club is a movie in itself and a huge turning point in the fortunes of our club.

Agree with this and would add that 87 or this season can’t be separated. Here’s to all of you who have witnessed that journey, those who are not with us anymore and those who have joined along the way. Cheers you lovely bastards!

For me it will always be the 87 FA Cup because the competition was such a prestigious trophy to win back then . However had we beaten Manure in the semi final and gone on to beat Man City in the final it would not have meant as much to me because of how the FA Cup has been devalued.

Ah the dreaded VAR line drawn on top of the defenders boot

Given the damp squib celebrations tonight can't believe anyone who experienced both would say promotion

I realise it's happened in strange circumstances but I think a cup success has everyone more focused.
Having said that, I'm still delighted

The coldest I've ever been at a football game

I must definitely have been there, because I always was in those days. But I have absolutely no recollection of it.

It’s weird isn’t it. I guess it’s because the real joy we get from football is the elation from seeing us score goals and win games. We got promotion today without that, which is probably why it feels a little hollow*….the shitshow of all the games on at different times doesn’t help.

But it doesn’t take away from the achievement and when we look back on this season we’ll all appreciate what we’ve managed to do and how we did it.

*if the promotion had happened after the Derby game last week I’d imagine the buzz wouldve been very different

Yeah there were certainly some sub-10k home league crowds in the early/mid 1980s, and I should know because I was there for all of them! But not in the season that FergieTheFinisher was referring to.

There were even into the 90s- 2 sub 10k league games in 91/92, plus less than 7k for the ZDS v Vile- the one where Butcher got sent off in front of their fans and kissed the badge as he went off.

Less than 10k v Ipswich in 94/95 too. TBF we served up some shite at times in the early 90s.

It's been said before, but climbing from where we were to this promotion back to the top flight is a massively harder achievement than winning 6 games to lift the Cup in 1987.

I'm sure this season will live long in our memories, and this brilliant team will always be Sky Blue legends. Over the last 9 months we've earned the right to play against the elite for at least a season.

But in terms of pure spontaneous elation and lasting joy, it could never hope to match that FA Cup triumph.
