I get the feeling, from the little I know about Iran, that it's one of the few countries in the region whose people, (if not their leaders), would welcome secularism, or certainly a more secular society.

Remember they had a democratic, fairly secular government in 1953 but we, (the west), over threw the regime because they wanted to nationalise oil.
