We concede too many. Doesn't matter if we score more. There is always room for improvement. 3-0 is better than 3-2.

To develop it further. These goals are not as a rule coming from attacking moves, with our defence stretched because we are an attacking team. They tend to be because of an inability to safely clear danger even though the defence is set up.

Not so good if you are facing the likes of PNE and Ipswich away

Think this is right TBH. The defence has been getting an easy ride thanks to how much we dominate but some of the recent goals conceded are every bit as bad as anything we’ve conceded in recent years. We’ve got four defenders who are good going forwards and we’ll blow teams away in this division but next season with this defence we’d get absolutely slaughtered.

Yes, we'll need a whole new defence. It's always the way with promotions, the players are all really happy until they realise that they'll be on the bench all season, if they're not sold back to where they came from to try again!

I would say Bobby Thomas and MVE could play in the premier league. Kitching's lack of pace might be an issue, and I am not sure about Dasilva. The way he's stepped on in the last 12 months, I wouldn't rule him out. They are all technically good players, which is not always the case of promoted Championship defenders. A big brutish CB with bad technique and a lack of pace can thrive in The Championship if he's in the right team, however they will be exposed in the Premier League

There’s big pressure on Ipswich. Their fans are quite chilled compared with others. Maybe McKenna has a lot of credit in the bank plus the memories of being in L1 less than 3 years ago.

But ripping up the team hasn’t worked. All the pundits saying they’re bound to come good is pressure and they keep slipping up. Their XG is pressure because each time they under achieve it, questions are asked. The defence can start to feel pressure as it knows the forwards might not get the job done. We hear that they have a bad record if they concede first etc etc. We keep making the gap bigger and if we maintain that, positions 2-6 will be a massive bunfight.

I think their game against Blackburn is going to be tough for them. A real grudge game where Blackburn will be well up for it. You can easily see cards, and the intensity will take something out of them for sure.

We can win down there of course but a draw is still a really good result. I think it will be cagey like the Leicester game.

1.5 points per game will see us go up from here on in
9 points from these tough 6 is sufficient, anything else is a bonus (ideally not losing to Ipswich twice)

The step up is huge. The speed of thinking and the extra half a yard it gives you is the differential.
Rushworth, MVE and Rudoni would hold their own I think.
Simms has experience at that level.
Hadji would have to be at his absolute best each game which is a challenge for him.
Torp has a great football brain and is technically excellent but lacks pace, the same with Grimes. Not saying they couldn't play at that level but may be a step up too far without class around them.
EMC would be interesting to see if he could step up. Currently can't beat a player and cuts back a lot but that gives us options when we work the ball around the box.
Sakamoto would be another interesting one, possibly too light but technically great at championship level. The step up may find him out.
Would be a challenge for any of our defence, pace required with no mistakes.
The rest, thanks for you service.
The reality is harsh ditching the players who got you there, but just look at Leeds and Burnley currently and how they performed last season.

10 points clear and we still can't shake off the whiners. We could beat Real Madrid 4-1 in a Champions League final and some dry arse on here would still be moaning we didn't close Mbappe down quick enough for their goal.

It does feel like in the era of social media and smart phones that less fans enjoy watching their team play

Which is incredibly sad when you think about it

Why are people stressing about who can make the step up and who can't?
Get up and take it from there.
We've all said we'd be happy to bea yoyo team for a bit.

Nooo I never wanna be in this league again

Also it's fun to think ahead to the premier league. Nice day dreaming

I would keep(although many will no longer be starters)

Rushworth
Dovin
Thomas
Kithcing
Woolf
Mve
JDS
KKH
EMC
Bta
Saka
Wright
Simms
Torp
Grimes

Sell or loan out

Allen
Bidwell
Lati
Wilson
Andrews
Brau
Eccles(could stay if continues to improve though)

Leaves us with 6-7 (wahey) slots to bring in premier league quality signings and really take us up a level as a squad.

Not stressing and loving every minute currently. I've been watching football long enough to know you have to enjoy your moments.

Re Yoyo - I have to agree with what TalkSport were saying Saturday evening about promotion when they were discussing the three that went up last season. Staying up on year one is massive, both financially and what it brings to the club in terms of the quality of player you can bring in.
Parachute payments yes, but no guarantees if you get relegated in terms of promotion or stability.

Three at the back. Woolfenden will be up for this and we have enough back up on the bench now Lati is available.

We did go to a 3 at the back formation when closing out the Charlton game.

It will be harder as any given year an established team can be pulled into it but I don't want us just to accept yo-yo as the best we can hope forSunderland and forest spent a lot and now seem safe enough quite quickly.

Leeds and Burnley never do and tend to yo-yo

Also I missed rudoni on my list. We have a really solid foundation to build upon

But a debate for another day, lets just get there first!

A lot of chances we concede ( see Charlton) come from MVE being so high up the pitch, and getting caught on the break. Wouldn't happen if he sat back, but then you lose his attacking threat.

Saturday Lampard was screaming at the fullbacks early on to get further up the pitch. I think people just need to accept we play with attacking fullbacks and Grimes dropping back.

Just before half time against Charlton we appeared to have a back 3 of Grimes, Dasilva and Milan with both Thomas and Kitching up and around their penalty area.

What do we think both interesting problems.

or

Rushworth

For me. Haji can work back from the bench. Eccles unlucky to lose out but Rudi so obviously wants to play in the 10 wherever you put him.

Only Stoke has conceded less than us, Ipswich the same.
We conceded 6 in the 5 November games including being away against 2nd (twice although Stoke didn't score)
We conceded 5 in the 6 October games which includes the 3 Wrexham scored against our reserve defence.
I don't think that's too much of a concern although it's preferable not to concede any.

In terms of players that will most likely still be with us in the event we're promoted, Grimes, Rudoni, Thomas, Kitching, Wolfenden, Dasilva, KKH, EMC, Simms would all qualify as home grown players.

I'd imagine Bidwell, Allen, Wilson will be let go. The youth players will either be let go or loaned out.

So that wouldn't be a reason for keeping him. Although I suspect we would do.

Do we not need players who have trained at our club for a certain number of years or is that just Football Manager??

In what way? I'm not saying he's crap or anything am I? Why does this always happen with Eccles? If you say anything it means you hate him because he's one of our own etc

I like Eccles. But he's not as good as grimes, rudoni or torp imo. I imagine in premier league we would bring in at least 2 midfielders so can't be space for everyone????
