He's started 11 games for us this season and we've won one of them (Plymouth at home). He also gets caught offside at a higher rate than any other striker in the division. I'd absolutely be looking to loan him out next season.

When Haji was injured, Simms and BTA’s goals got us into the playoffs when we started that run. Simms has got it in his locker to score a lot of goals in this league (scored in more games, more open play goals than Haji) so looking ahead to next season, I believe he could make a big impact.

I do think the 11 games or so where we stuck with Bassette was a mistake because he’s still a bit too raw. Frankly, I didn’t have much hope last night when Paterson and Bassette came on.

The thing about Haji, that people overlooked this season is that he had a run of 5 games where he didn’t score before his goal scoring streak before his injury. The manager put their faith in him and played him even when he weren’t playing well. This season, Simms and BTA only got a consistent run when we played 5-3-2, it’s been too inconsistent for them to hit a run imo.

That's all fair, although I just think for someone who doesn't create much either, a return of 6 in 39 isnt enough. 2 in 24 for NB too. I thought this season would be a big one for Ellis, there is still time, but if he doesn't start finding it soon, I'd not be too bothered to see him move on in the summer.

He was clattered a couple of times last night and first 90 back, but seemed to walk off ok. What have you heard?

Wright didn't exactly fill me with confidence last night either. That header was probably the worst attempt of the lot.

Were frigging snatching at opportunities...it was just another night where things didnt quite fall for us. Their keeper was motm in my mind. Overall creating chances so we move on.

The 6 in 39 can be a bit misleading because a lot of those are sub appearances.

This is Simms’ worst goalscoring season in his career and he obviously needs to improve going forwards into the final stretch this season and into next season.

I don’t see how being in and out of the team has helped any of our strikers tbh, that applies to Simms and BTA more than anything.

With Bassette, agreed. He’s v energetic and a contagious self-confidence around him but he’s also raw and the standard he came from isn’t exactly amazing.

Again I'm going to disagree (sorry this isn't personal at you, I must've got out the wrong side of the bed ).

39 games out of 42 isnt in and out of the team, it means he's been involved whether starting or as a sub in almost every game. He's not had to recover from injury so whatever his minutes he should be sharp and match-fit and ready to contribute.

I cant fathom it

4 weeks back after Sunderland we had a clean bill of health

Now we have

Dovin
Torp
Eccles
EMC
BTA
Thomas all out

Capitulation injury wise in just a few weeks
I suspect a few of them had been playing through injury for some time, BTA and EMC most certainly were and maybe Thomas. Torp and Dovin very unfortunate.

No because the forwards need to be serviced. We created one big chance and it fell to Haji in the box where he’s got to score.

On aerial duels specifically, Simms’ 2.7 per 90 is in the top 25% of forwards and given how the officials ref the game, the advantage is with the CB, that’s not bad. We see it every week how the CBs can climb all over forwards and they rarely get the decision.

Bassette didn’t have a shot so pointing the finger at Simms and Bassette when Haji Wright missed our best chances is rather strange.

Wright is head and shoulders our best forward. He can create chances and has pace and worries defenders.

Sakamoto was anonymous and Simms did ok by his standards but isn’t good enough over 46 games. Wright was the only actual threat.

Bassette did actually make a cross at the end but he is just another Tavares as things stand

I don't think Wright has been very impressive since he was unplayable against Sunderland. He's clearly our best striker by a mile but very unpredictable.

In our house he’s either known as Haji Right or Haji Shite. No in between with him.

Where has anyone said Wright isn’t our best forward? Pointing out that Simms scored more goals from open play last year isn’t a sleight on Wright.

I thought Haji played well out wide yesterday and he looked freer in his role. I’m looking forward to seeing him and Simms rekindle the partnership from last season. Which hasn’t been played often since September despite being a partnership that got 40+ goal contributions last season.

Sakamoto was anonymous and looking towards the summer I’m fairly confident we’ll be looking to sign a RW. Competition and game changing quality is needed on a more consistent basis.

Looking at the bench last night, there were no obvious game changers to come on and we were depleted.

Can't really disagree with that, when he's on it he's unplayable when he's not its definitely the latter

It wouldn't surprise me if Sheaf is injured for Friday. He looked to be limping after his penalty shout late in the game

Sakamoto is a big concern for me, you can't fault his work rate or ability, but for some reason he's completely stopped being any kind of goal threat. He and EMC are looking for the easy option far too often, it's backwards and sideways instead of trying to be a threat or putting an early cross in.

Eccles BTA and Thomas being taken day by day at the moment

Could look at injections if needed to get through the last 4

It must be what they've been asked to do; prioritise keeping the ball over riskier, but potentially more beneficial, actions.

It does nullify us, imo, but it may also stop teams breaking against us.

Yeah, I assume that's a part of it. Still think there's instances where it's just them making no decision, or taking too long to make a decision.

Imagine we will try get through weekend and re assess.

Injections may work for BtA, but thomas and Eccles calf issues are not something typical inject for.

Let’s hope for positive news on all 3.

Better sounding news all round.

Eccles and Asante training. And close to bench.

Thomas should be back before Boro.

Torp didn't do his ankle ligaments, that thug did it to him and the ref just laughed it off.
