It’s a high risk signing and always was going to be. You assume Viveash recommended it as he could sort out the clear issues that are there - the big issue of lack of pace and fitness isn’t improving at all

His lack of pace was highlighted on Saturday. He was getting beaten to the ball far too easily and similarly the Norwich defenders were picking the ball off him with ease as well.

It was - and realistically given the lack of budget available his wages could've easily been put to better use.

While he's here though I think he needs to play in a deeper role as he's just completely unsuited to the current position he's in at the minute.

He does run back, you see O'Hare winning the ball about 30 yards from our goal or at least pressuring a player so they run into Hamer or Sheaf. It can't be understated how much he's missed.

I haven't said he isn't missed. He's critical to how we play.

I said at the start of the season he'd instantly improve us and make us better when he returned from injury while the bedwetters were in full flow.

We don't have anyone like him so there's little point comparing them to O'Hare, all I said was that if we're playing two up front then Palmer would be the best option to play in the AM role.

The results with and without o hare this season prove the point - there’s nothing like an adequate replacement for him available

And yet you were mocking people who said O'Hare would make a huge difference when he returned to the side at the start of the season.

On paper it all makes sense but Palmer in a 3 man midfield behind 2 strikers is problematic for me. He just doesn’t get back so Hamer has to do so much more defensive work, which I feel blunts his own game. Allen is like a bluebottle trapped in a greenhouse but it generally allows Hamer a bit more freedom. I think it would need us to go to a back 3 again and the wingbacks to really play in a midfield 4 and not a back 5 to work. And then there’s no room for Robins favourite Allen.

You say those last two sentences like they’re a bad thing

This is why we need a much better back three and GK TBH.

If Robins is insistent on continuing with the current style another CAM has to be brought in. We obviously won't get anyone that's remotely close to O'Hare's calibre but we desperately need someone in there that's actually suited to the role - as Palmer just isn't.

Yes I have said we really need another AM in, but I'm pretty sure we will revert to three at the back and the usual system now.

regarding Panzo, he has the pedigree to become a good centre half, the trouble with him at the moment, he needs a leader next to him like Mcfadz, Doyle cetainly isn't one, well not yet anyway far to young, he was better when fadz was playing.

But nobody else will suit the role that O'Hare plays in the way that he plays it.

The only game I can remember him and Palmer together for any significant time, Palmer seemed confused about where to play because O'Hare was covering so much ground

Spot on. I was hoping Rose would step up and do this role but unfortunately not. It’s why an experienced CB would’ve been top of my list of signings…not more wingbacks

You could get Porteous in from Hibs now for a small up front amount.

He'll have far more attractive suitors I'd imagine.

I wrote him a letter, but I think the crayon was hard to read.

From what I can see if anything it’s other Championship clubs and Udinese who would be doing it to get him to Watford on the cheap. Don’t try you don’t get though. It is at least worth making the effort and giving his agent something to think about.

Exactly - a far more attractive suitor. I think Blackburn are also in for him.

At this juncture it's pointless wasting time going after a player who realistically wouldn't ever sign for us given the level of clubs already interested. Even if it is a case of just making a couple of phone calls.

I think a big part of our problem is we’ve built a fast counter attacking style around Gyokeres, O’Hare and Hamer and they are very unique players, each in their own ways, who are almost impossible to replace with the system we use. We’ve not had the money to invest in like for like back ups to those players, if they even exist, and what we’ve got left in our threadbare squad aren’t good enough to make that style work without them. If and when we lose Gyokeres, with O’Hare out too, we’re going to need a rethink on how we try to score goals.

Fair enough, but then I don’t know how we’re ever going to improve the squad if we give up when other Championship clubs are interested.

I'm not really saying that.

What I am saying though is that in the context of the current window, when time isn't exactly on the club's side, I wouldn't call it a prudent use of time to be making enquires for players that are actively being chased by clubs which would easily be able to double any salary offered by the club.

It's a pointless exercise.

One player in a key position who is available at a much reduced price simply because his contract’s up. King said it is worth investing in the right players-he is one.

It will be like this with any player we go for who is up to the standard

I don't really believe that we'll ever be in the market for a player like Porteous though. It's all well and good that his price tag is lower due to his expiring contract but his wages would probably still cause a significant roadblock, especially when multiple parties are interested in him.

Doug King taking a majority stake in the club frankly isn't likely to chance that. Well, that's my belief anyway.

Again fair enough. But we are going to be outbid for any decent player if that’s the case. And ultimately that’s why we are where we are with the current squad

I think it’s already been indicated that we’re not going to be looking at experienced pros that are up to the level. Even with King, not a lot is going to change, we’re still in the market to try and bring in and develop kids whilst bringing in young inexperienced loans to fill holes. See Norton-Cuffy and Wilson-Esbrand.

Again, we aren't really ever in the market for the finished article. For the very reason I stated - we simply can't compete. That isn't likely to change under the new regime I'm afraid.

Pretty much all the signings brought in are either raw loans young talent from PL clubs, or semi-forgotten Championship players who are surplus to requirements at their former club/s. Or, bar Hamer, shot in the dark signings from Europe. It's essentially doing the best we can with what's available. That model, if you can even call it that, will probably more or less continue under Doug King.

The only difference will be is that Robins will hopefully get more manoeuvrability when needed.
