Depends on the surgeon and their post-op instructions more than anything else, and these are based on the best evidence available for how long it takes for the graft to adequately bed in. You won't get many actual clinical stumbling blocks in the recovery of an elite athlete if it's a good surgery and good rehab (see Neymar's physios for an example of how not to treat a post-op ACLR).

In the UK it's unlikely to be less than 5 months before return to run, and 9 months for return to sport.

In Italy a lot of the surgeons get players back in 3 months and the re-injury rates are worse than Leicester's goal difference.

Keep one of the two we have beyond the summer, look at a loan initially for the first half of the season but with the option to extend. Best we can hope for, really.

So many variables:
- Depends what damage hes done (ACL) is quite broad statement, fingers crossed no additional damage than that.
- Plus side being GK is less strain than outfield, so hopefully helps in recovery/when he does comeback
- Surgeon makes big difference, although these days all pretty good
- rehab - sure the club will ensure he has best available as we seem to have come on leaps and bounds on that front

Going to be real tough mentally for him, new country, not sure on his support network etc.

Real tough one, horrible injuries.

Need to give him lots of love, young lad in a new country and this happens in your first year. Going to be destabilising.

Any examples of top flight keepers who did an acl and came back?

On the face of it you probably don’t mind it as much as you do for a CM, but more I think about the need to jump, push off the knee as a keeper the less convinced i am. Certainly lost some of that when I did an acl.

Cooper did his whilst at Plymouth, and he’s probably the best keeper in the championship now

Crap news and terrible timing. Obviously we have to go with what we have until the summer. Collins can be a decent enough keeper just need his head right. WIlson too although I feel like his new contract is more to do with him being almost the perfect character for 3rd choice keeper.

Who knows what might happen come the end of the season but I'd be tempted to see if there are any older keepers that might want a route into coaching but are still at a level they can give us 6 months cover as 1st choice whilst Dovin recovers. Frank must have some contacts. An old experienced head that the other keepers can learn off

Not sure what's involved in rehab but there must be some weeks / months where they can let him go home and just follow instuctions you would have thought.

Got to balance keeping him around the squad so he feels part of things and not have him sat around with nothing to do for months.

I thought Colling did OK against Sheff U.
Maybe the break from 1st team football and some intense coaching is all he needed

Sorry Dove.

Bring in Karl Darlow. Leeds No2.
Good age profile at 34. Current Wales keeper looks the part in an 8 match unbeaten run.
If Leeds go up he might well be available.

A season-ending injury to MVE, Wright, Thomas, Grimes, Rudoni, EMC or Sakamoto would be more damaging. There are obvious worries about Collins but at least hypothetically we don’t have to change anything about the way Lampard wants us to play.

mate this season Collins has been diabolical

MVE you could maybe argue, but the rest of those all have decent replacements at least

Wilson and Collins are both in the bottom 10-15 goalkeepers in the league, it’s a massive downgrade from Dovin to be honest but that’s outside of our control (unlike when Lampard first came in).

That said, to put a positive spin on things, Collins was in goal during that freakish spell we conceded nearly 75-85% of shots on target we faced. Some goals he could’ve done (a lot) better, some he couldn’t and it wasn’t all his fault.

We can’t change anything now and hopefully a period out of the team helps him and he replicates his form from last season when he broke into the team. If it’s Wilson, hopefully he becomes prime 22/23 Wilson.

Like you say it's more the twisting and turning at pace or under pressure that's tough to return to. The power and plyometric ability of the leg will suffer but with good rehab he can get that back and more by the time he returns at 9-12 months!

It makes a huge difference being able to rehab 24/7 as an elite athlete rather than being someone who has to fit their rehab in alongside a full time job and everything else in life.

Hope your knee is alright now!

This is ridiculous, we've still got Julian Gray at the club collecting dust - I hope FL and his backroom staff have at least seen fit to put him between the sticks for half an hour at the end of a training session this week to see what 'prospect' we may have.
Regardless of how it may have turned out we should throw the gloves and green jersey in his direction and stick him on the bench for Saturday.
Sorted. Maybe.

Yeah he did, however he got turned and took him out. Should have had a yellow.

Should have had a red when he stuck an elbow into MVE's head though.

Cracks me up when it happens against us, we are all outraged.

Nick you literally have your profile picture of Bassette winking after play acting being hit after he slapped someone on the back of the head and got them sent off.

It's naughty, it's dark arts, it happens. Mcfadz says Kitching literally pinches people during corners to try get them to react
