Alright then guys, where does everyone think we will be in 3 years time.

I think a steady side in the championship, pushing for promotion the following year

This year 17th or above
2012/13 14th
2013/14 12th

The players that will still be there in 2013/14
jeffers
murphy
mcsheff
deegan
dunn
Some of the younger players will have possibly moved on to better things
I can also see us with large investment, hopefully in 2012 (fingers crossed)

So what does everyone think the state of our club will be...

To be honest, this season is just a matter of staying in the league, especially if we get the dreaded -10 for going into Administration. After that, providing The Hoff's lot complete their Takeover, we can look to bringing in some better quality players and hopefully over the course of a couple of seasons, build a side that is capable of competing towards the top 6.

(It's a possibility yes) But If I said to any of my mates and family "I would love us to get relegated and have a tour of division 1" , I would be waking up the next morning with a sore head, are you telling me you would like to lose Leicester and Brum for one season in exchange for the derby being MK Dons ? You'd also like the season ticket sales to hit around 5-7,000 ? and having the likes of Newcastle / West Ham etc.. taken away ?

I know it's a possibilty we get relegated - But to suggest to "love it" for one season ? My self, the only thing i'd "love" is to get promoted - not relegated

I appreciate your points but my mate is a Leicester fan (queue animosity) and he said playing in League 1 was awesome! Forget the financial side of it and think how much fun it might be,
- going to every away game expecting to win
- smashing teams by 4 or 5 goals in a game on a regular basis
- Away gates are masive as you are the 'big' team in the didvision.

Personally I don't give a shit about playing local derbies and big teams as I prefer the old school square football grounds (not stadiums). I only pay to watch MY team play football NOT THE OPPOSITION and if the City are winning games week in week out I know i would enjoy it more than I do now.

This is all however hypothetical and I appreciate that you can't forget the finances or the fact that in reality it would not be an easy ride in League 1, I did emphasise however the proviso that promotion was guaranteed and it had no negative affect in the long term.

To sum up, Its just a bit of fun

The attendences would be like 9000 a week and the biggest gate would be a christmas game at like 17000, its horrible in the ricoh when its like that even worse than now.

Yes, and I remember all those people who said exactly this when we were in the top flight! It was also a viewpoint that one Bryan Richardson fed the fans. It didn't quite work out that way. I'm sure Bradford, Luton, Plymouth, Sheff Wed etc fans would disagree, too.

Relegation from this league would be nothing short of a disaster. There'd be no romantic 'tour' of the lower leagues. We'd have worse players, attendances below 10k, even less interested owners.

Going down would not be fun at all. Many of us thought we would bounce back when we were relegated from the Premiership, but the financial problems were deep rooted & persist to this day.
Look for instance at Stoke & Sheffield Wednesday I'm sure that is what their fans thought when they went to the 3rd tier.
Stoke got out & have become relatively successful again, but Sheffield Wednesday are still in the brown stuff.

The only way out of the mire is to run the club on sound financial lines and have an ultra rich backer(s) who will see us through hard times or push us to the next level without lumbering the club with massive debts (like Jack Walker).

Keep seeing people say about having a major financial backer prepared to throw money at the club (Jack this isnt aimed specifically at you its a general comment) ............. but that only works if that backer is prepared to write that money off, very very few do that. The money they put into the club is by way of a loan in one guise or another, the more they put in the more the club owes. Ok that "white knight" may not look for annual income from that loan (not charge interest etc) but that is actually no different to our current set up. So in essence SISU are no different to a "white knight" and what we are complaining about is how much they put in - do we want to be be deeper and deeper in debt ?.

Then people say that football is an entirely different type of business - that some how the accepted business logic should go out of the window. Is there a good reason why all football clubs should not make a profit, do the owners/directors choose to pay exhorbitant wages on the very small likelihood of success and if so is that good business? Could the players demand the wages if the clubs said no we are not paying? Would the mega rich owners of some clubs be just as happy paying out much less for their play thing?

Okay, here's my call.

1, Andy Thorn will still be manager at Coventry City.

2, I believe, (and boy this one's a big call) we will see attendences of around 30,000 (could to to do with, lowering season tickets prices).

3, Appart from the goalkeeper, the other 10 players in the starting line-up will be aged 22 or under and they are those players that came through the sky blues academy.

I doubt the financial rewards for being promoted from league 1 are no more than the payout for finishing mid table in the championship, lower prize money from the league (it's tiered) considerably lower tv revenue, lower gates (ticket prices would have to drop accordingly) not to mention a mass exodus of players!!

Financially, going down to league 1 would kill the club, even if we were guaranteed to bounce straight back up!!
