The continent as a whole suffers from not dealing with it in a joined up way.I don't disagree but it doesn't help when there's the attitude that the countries where the common entry points are should be responsible for actually housing them, especially when the numbers entering the countries illegally are much higher than the likes of the UK.

It's a good point and most of Europe wasn't bothered about the crossing until it actually impacted them...until now.Then it's a reflection of the bigger problems the world is facing. 'Not my problem' countries not seeing how it will eventually become their problem later on.
I can't help but think that's exactly what France is doing with the boats issue. They see how much shit our government is getting for it and they seem happy to let it continue even if it means allowing people to risk their lives crossing the Channel.

Several friends of ours have successfully emigrated to Australia though, it's something we'd do without children if the country got into a bad enough state. Both well qualified professionals who'd have no problem meeting the points target for entry there.

Definitely agree with you on the culture difference. Can't understand why Muslims do not migrate to other Muslim nations. Brexit stopped a lot of Poles, Latvians coming over which most people never had a problem with. They all came to earn a living and not not scrounge off the systemLong story short we need to import British people because we aren’t making enough of them domestically.
Shorter story short we are one of the richest nations on the planet and can afford a few thousand genuine asylum seekers.
All that said the way immigration is done clearly isn’t working socially. People are too segregated on both sides so if you’re accepting you need at least 140k net inward migration just to maintain the current population level, let alone the 200-400 you may want for the economy you need to find a way to improve that.
For me for asylum seekers you do whatever it takes to set up a processing centre in Calais and an agreement that anyone found on a boat is taken there for processing. Work with the French police and say any trouble is an immediate no. Those that do come you do whatever we’ve been doing. Frankly I’d let people work while they await a decision. Better than roaming the streets for months on end with nothing to do and maybe we can either root out the wronguns quicker or get the good ones better integrated sooner if they’re in the community working.
For legal immigration Brexit has been a disaster and it’s concentrated our immigration in too few places with too large cultural differences that end up in ghettoisation of first generation immigrants.
I’d rejoin the single market and get a better mix of EU and non EU immigration to start with.
I’d also go hard on integration. English ability a must, no religious schools (sorry CofE - you are the egg in the omelette).
I’d also make some rights associated with citizenship particularly around benefits and social housing. I don’t think it would make a huge difference but I think it would make people feel better.

It's not simply because of it not being my preferred political party; over half my life the Tories have been in. Reform would however run the country into the ground and turn it into a country I just don't recognise as my own anymore. I disagree with "leaving because x, y, or z politicians got voted in"! Just look at the Americans now with egg on their face saying they'd leave if Trump got in. All blindly following celebs. All well and good if you're Ellen and got millions in the bank to just up and move.
