Suppose a panel of professionals would have to sift through them. Putting forward acceptable degrees and ruling out others.

I don't disagree but it doesn't help when there's the attitude that the countries where the common entry points are should be responsible for actually housing them, especially when the numbers entering the countries illegally are much higher than the likes of the UK.

I know but that's why the attitude that countries far away from the entry points shouldn't have the responsibility for processing and housing them and it should be down to those at the border.

Then it's a reflection of the bigger problems the world is facing. 'Not my problem' countries not seeing how it will eventually become their problem later on.

I can't help but think that's exactly what France is doing with the boats issue. They see how much shit our government is getting for it and they seem happy to let it continue even if it means allowing people to risk their lives crossing the Channel.

The first is an MA and it's looking at the wider cultural impact. The Taylor Swift one looks like it's a summer school course?

It's a good point and most of Europe wasn't bothered about the crossing until it actually impacted them...until now.

But still, the sentiment stands. No pointless degrees as a way of dodging NS. But then, even if it is a pointless degree, then that student will still have to buckle down at school and get to the required standard to be accepted for a place at uni. Maybe rather than no pointless degrees, how about a specific standard? I dont know, something like 8/10 A-C GCSEs. Any less or any lower and its off to the army?

We won't because we have a young child and will probably have another by then, as I said.

Several friends of ours have successfully emigrated to Australia though, it's something we'd do without children if the country got into a bad enough state. Both well qualified professionals who'd have no problem meeting the points target for entry there.

Surely if you havea child then more reason to emigrate. This country is turning into a 3rd world shit hole.

You have to think about your own and child's future more, wished I'd of gone to Oz or New Zealand when my kids were little. They're 19 and 16 now so left it to late

To do an MA you've already got a degree at a decent level.
Some people aren't suited to schools in the traditional sense and should have the opportunity to start learning a trade, at say 14 or 15 - I think that's better than sending them off to the army, personally.

Long story short we need to import British people because we aren’t making enough of them domestically.

Shorter story short we are one of the richest nations on the planet and can afford a few thousand genuine asylum seekers.

All that said the way immigration is done clearly isn’t working socially. People are too segregated on both sides so if you’re accepting you need at least 140k net inward migration just to maintain the current population level, let alone the 200-400 you may want for the economy you need to find a way to improve that.

For me for asylum seekers you do whatever it takes to set up a processing centre in Calais and an agreement that anyone found on a boat is taken there for processing. Work with the French police and say any trouble is an immediate no. Those that do come you do whatever we’ve been doing. Frankly I’d let people work while they await a decision. Better than roaming the streets for months on end with nothing to do and maybe we can either root out the wronguns quicker or get the good ones better integrated sooner if they’re in the community working.

For legal immigration Brexit has been a disaster and it’s concentrated our immigration in too few places with too large cultural differences that end up in ghettoisation of first generation immigrants.

I’d rejoin the single market and get a better mix of EU and non EU immigration to start with.

I’d also go hard on integration. English ability a must, no religious schools (sorry CofE - you are the egg in the omelette).

I’d also make some rights associated with citizenship particularly around benefits and social housing. I don’t think it would make a huge difference but I think it would make people feel better.

I suppose only you and your wife could answer that question.
Me and mine have been looking at moving. Not Australia, though. Too hot and too many killy things! Fuck that!
We've been researching Norway. As a nurse, she'd be on similar there to what she earns here. It's there, or north wales
that's our 2 options currently.

Then were fucked. And see what policies other parties have to reduce that deficit. We can't keep passing it between Labour and Cons. Both very out of touch, out of control, and useless. We owe it to our children and their children to at least try amd leave the country in a decent state for them.to grow up in

Reform are just Tories. They’re just the mental Tories like Greens are the mental Labour (and rural Tories). Ultimately there’s only so much political theory to go around.

The reason things seem bad, other than social media driving people crazy, is because modern problems in a system of global capital are really fucking hard to fix.

Definitely agree with you on the culture difference. Can't understand why Muslims do not migrate to other Muslim nations. Brexit stopped a lot of Poles, Latvians coming over which most people never had a problem with. They all came to earn a living and not not scrounge off the system

No, i dont disagree with that. One of my biggest regrets was not trying to get Australian citizenship whilst in the army.

I disagree with "leaving because x, y, or z politicians got voted in"! Just look at the Americans now with egg on their face saying they'd leave if Trump got in. All blindly following celebs. All well and good if you're Ellen and got millions in the bank to just up and move. Look like a bit of a c**t though as Joe blogs that said it because Beyoncé did, and are still sat in you're same house, with the same job, but just with a new president.

There's a bit of revisionism going on here. There was definitely a backlash against them when they first came over to the country when they joined the EU.

Is there any evidence we’re seeing lots of Asian or African immigrants scrounging?

I don’t know but I’d agree with the principle for example that non British citizens shouldn’t get some benefits or social housing. Which I think would at least put people’s mind at rest.

You go down A&E and you'll see.
Drive down a street during the day and see every cafe full outside with men drinking coffee and smoking.
Go to sports centres, Alan Higgs, AT7 especially full of immigrants getting it for free.

One of the main drivers behind Brexit was to reduce immigration. All it did was replace Poles and Latvians with Pakistanis and Nigerians.

It's not simply because of it not being my preferred political party; over half my life the Tories have been in. Reform would however run the country into the ground and turn it into a country I just don't recognise as my own anymore. I feel that strongly about what they would do that yes, I wouldn't want to live here anymore.

But family comes first and we're not moving to the other side of the world regardless of who's elected, on that basis.
