zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.Well a couple of threads yesterday went well off topic and ended up discussing my favourite (or should I say least favourite) subject.
Many will know my views on thorn. Inept beyond belief, defeatist, clueless, lacking any motivational ability and utterly incapable of communication. He is, beyond question, the worst manager this club has ever had born by the fact be is now unemployed and will never again be employed in football.
Yet, and yet the adulation he received by many on here is far more than given to Pressley and robins. Thorn wasn't a cheap option - he was a caretaker for 11 games and had a mediocre points total in that time. The fact is that if he them hadn't been given the job full time there would have been uproar. He was compared to jimmy hill, its the best football seen in decades, he's the man who can spot a player - a master talent.
The truth is with a real manager in charge we would probably have survived. A real manager had to be worth more than 10 points. The first half of the season completely finished us.
Can someone, anyone, explain how people were so badly wrong in their judgement regarding this utterly clueless individual.
Now people will say why dredge this up. Fair enough but this to me is worthy debate as I think in decades to come two things will be big talking points - how the club ended up in Northampton and how an unqualified inept buffoon managed to get away with being so popular when he was the worst manager in the clubs history.

not really, liked the fella as a decent fella though, why the witchunt ?How original. I take it you were a fan?
What's RFC got to do with this?Must you pick at the scab?
He's left!
Dear lord let it go man, you are easily the most boring man I have ever come across.
G - you are better than this.
I think the question is legitimate.

To answer your post Grendel, I think the problem was the "honeymoon" period in his time as caretaker. I was at the 3-0 win at Portsmouth, and was very impressed with what I saw that night. Attacking, exciting football. And I'll admit I had high hopes for the following season. Then the summer came, and the players that entertained the sba at fratton park that night, were gone. When we lost 1-0 against Leicester on the opening day, and saw 5000 of their fans leaving happy, I knew then I'd made a very bad judgement on Thorn, and am happy to admit, I was very wrong.
That's a very sensible post - I wish many more realised the same.
I knew with him in charge we were done for. I've never admitted this bit I actually wanted us to lose games I watched as I new he had to be sacked to have a chance to survive. Fans had to turn against him - they never did. I think there was a coupe of games won around Christmas and I remember cursing and wishing we'd lost.
He was a scout not a manager. Did Sisu not know that?
No experience so no chance of continued success.
A few good results at the right time for him but more luck than judgement.
Once Sisu depleted the squad this nice guy was out his depth.
Robins was lined up as manager - the fans saw thorn as an antithesis to sisu and automatically adapted a "love thorn hate sisu" stance. I guess its similar to how ACL and the council have got away with it really.
Bit of a leap of faith to bring ACL/CCC into a Andy Thorn thread but I guess that was the whole point of this pointless thread.
To blame our relegation only on Andy Thorn is pretty fucking short sighted. The team was pretty poor that year.
I will add my thoughts. He was a useless sack of shit. I said it all along....my view hasn't changed, and I honestly believe if we had had Robins or a.n.other we would have stayed up.
Still its amazing that so many people on here would rather talk about the same old shit all the time rather than a tongue in cheek review of the clown. Perhaps I should get back on topic and talk about fans at Sixfields......Noooooooooooooooooooo
If its pointless why comment? Go on admit it, its because I started it and you had to take a look....

I think he was better than Reid who I rate as our worst ever manager. Just saying
I heard an interesting interview with Reid on Five Live a couple of years ago about life at Coventry. You'd have more sympathy if you'd heard it.
