Is today (21st June) Midsummers Day or the first day of summer? I get conflicting thoughts off different people. I've always thought of today as Midsummers Day (since I was a little kid) but now have it pointed out to me that today is actually the first day of summer. Which is it??

I didn't think it was either. Midsummers day is 24th June Today (21st) is the longest day.

Lol I'm wrong!

According to today's Google homepage today is the first day of summer. The bits above about longest and Midsummers are correct though

Although ... if today is the first day and Mid-summer is 24th then does summer only last a week?

Now I'm confused too!

Today is the summer solstice and longest day, and can vary between the 20th and 24th dependent on earths orbit and rotation. Midsummers day usually coincides with the summer solstice.
