Even if we do fall away this season, we're only 2-3 astute signings away from being contenders for the automatics next season.

Under FL we are not free flowing or even solid at times, but what we are is together, spirited, stubborn which brings confidence up as a squad. That mentality has taken us to have it in our own hands. The fact we seem mentally strong may help with the news on Rudi that could come, And we then will take it one game at a time and pick up as many wins as you can. Next game 3 points, no injuries is the most important, what others do will not matter now if we keep taking care of our own results

Hmmm got a feeling about Leicester. A good feeling. It's time those cunts suffered for the endless cheating.

The EFL are gunning for them I feel

Could well make an example of them if they wanted too

I think we would catch a few teams out with that unusual formation but personally I think our chances would be improved with 10 outfield players.

Along similar lines I was saying today, the old classic. Win your home games take a draw away. Not at the moment. Win every game.

That’s still being a supporter for so long that I automatically expect the worst.

2 teams in the last ten years finishing 5th or 6th have won playoffs as well. It’s almost a closed shop.

Don't know why but had a different impression, always thought there was some bogey idea that teams finishing sixth had the whip hand at Wembley?
Probably why I thought Robins PO final was against the grain.

The exceptions were Villa, who for me at the time don’t count considering the money they had and I forget the other one.

It will ebb and flow. League positions and form mean nothing. It's one game at a time now. What we have done now means nothing. Any team getting into the play offs needs to be on a 3 or 4 game run. Go into it with momentum. Where your team has been all season means nothing.

Stoke H
Derby A
Sunderland H
SU A
Burnley H

Pompey H
Hull A
WB H
Plymouth A
Luton A
Boro H

Looking at the run-in we can definitely do it, the points total is going to be low and we have some very winnable ties.

That little three game run starting against Sunderland is a massive test but not totally season defining, we all need to hold our nerve fans and all.

Totally agree with this. I feel like the only players potentially off that we'd miss are MvE Haji and Sheaf. And if any of those 3 went we'd have a huge pot to reinvest. The rest are either on new deals or no big loss.

RB LB and A quality CB are vital for me.

Whilst we’ve been good, a number of games could have easily gone the other way. I still expect us to go on a run of a few games without a win at some point.

If anyone had have said to me at Christmas that we’d be in the playoffs by Easter I’d have told you bollocks. Yet here we are.

Once again I have to eat humble pie. Well done Frank, the credit lies with you. Keep on proving my initial reaction to your appointment wrong. Humble pie tastes good.

I agree. But we don't gave the resources to have another Rudoni on the bench.
We'll have to work our way round it

Luton?

You never know what will happen to the sides coming back down. Ipswich joined the party this season. They spent heavily but will have to reduce their wage bill. Leicester should be in for a points deduction as a minimum. Their main striker gets his free bus pass soon. After their antics for the last few seasons they could be hit with a transfer embargo.

This seasons relegated sides are 2nd, 3rd and 22nd. If we don't go up this season and have a better start next season we could easily be in the mix.

There’s no reason why we can go up this season. Since Lampard has took over, we’ve been the 4th best team in the league (technically 3rd until Burnley play their game in hand) so we’re more than capable of finishing in the playoffs. From there, it’s anyone’s chance and we’d most likely be heading into the playoffs as the form team.

Ipswich have tied up top end Championship talent with their spending this season. Luton lost their talisman and hadn’t spent much of the Prem money on top championship talent in the first place.

If anything, I could see Leicester struggling the most out of the relegated teams, particularly if the EFL throw the book at them. This time they won’t have a manager of Maresca’s quality managing them next season so hoping it all goes downhill for them!

How's beating Stoke and Derby, the worst case scenario?

Surely, the worst case scenario is us losing every remaining game.

Whether we make it or not, I’m just really grateful that these games aren’t dead rubbers and the season is still alive. Which is something I couldn’t imagine back at the end of December.

Sunderland and whoever end up finishing 3rd *should* be much stronger than whoever gets those last 2 places but you never know!

It will be Sunderland for us in the playoffs, a virtual north east replica of when we had to play Middlesbrough at the end of the season and then twice in the playoffs.

Ipswich did well on back to back promotion but if they come down they are in for a slog in the championship this coming season and no feel good factor to help this time plus a few disgruntled player to boot as well,

I imagine most games will go as expected with us winning against weaker sides, losing to the top ones.

The crucial games imo will be the ones against the rivals for the two spots and WBA and Boro will be thereabouts, so I think it's as important we don't like those as it is beating some of the others. 2 draws there, defeats against Sunderland, Burnley and Sheffield United, means we need as many as we can from the others.

Be nice to relegate Luton on the penultimate game too.

Hopefully Plymouth and Luton are already down or safe when we play them and Middlesbrough's season's over so they're all on the beach. End of season games get incredibly easier/harder depending on the context.

I totally agree but so many fans look at the fixture list now and league positions and make simplistic predictions.

Middlesbrough last game of the season could be them or us. It could be a dead rubber for both clubs. I agree with your context ... and the nearer you get to the end of the season the context keeps changing. League positions can mean nothing in the context.
