Yes but according to his reasoning you’d give Thorn 5 years. Doesn’t bear thinking about

Tottenham won 3-0 tonight and played a centre back on the wing and he was MOTM. Interesting to hear from the manger

Manger said “we see these players sometimes 12 hours a day, spend time with them, work with them and develop them, people have the right to comment, but we know them”

Exactly... Always bugs me when someone spouts an opinion about so and so, and how we should try him as a winger etc... If you've had the idea, do you not think the manager has also thought about it and tried it...

You make that argument with yourself that they must have better info seeing them in training, but then you remember things like Andy Morrell on the right wing, Bakayoko as a lump-it-to-his-head targetman and Maguire-Drew/Josh Barrett on the pitch and think "Do they really know them?"

Would have loved to see them practising having Chaplin in midfield in training.

They probably didn't, they probably trained with him playing on the shoulder, but pressure makes you do odd things. Making him drop deeper and deeper "looking" for the ball ( avoiding another chance dropping to him in reality) have you noticed, Chaplin went to Robins to discuss playing on the last man, he had a couple of games, dropped deeper and deeper, not done his job and Robins dropped him.

From the offal
Sky Blues boss Mark Robins is looking ahead to the weekend’s fixture with Walsall, as his side look to build on last week’s win against Rochdale.

City ended a run of results without a win with a dominant display at the Crown Oil Arena, a performance which mirrored that of previous games.

This weekend Robins’ side will take on a Walsall side looking to pull themselves away from danger, having slipped towards the wrong end of the table.

The City boss has been impressed with what he has seen in training this week, with the fixture against the Saddlers approaching.

He said: “Things have been lively and bright, I was really impressed with the training yesterday, so the lead up to the game has been really good.

“We’ve just got to finalise the preparation today and look forward to playing in a home game and get another three points.

“I’m pleased with the way things are going, what we are trying to do is good and the way we are playing, the processes we go through will take time.

“I enjoy watching us play, it's enjoyable to watch and a good way of playing and a brave way of playing.”

Following the win against Rochdale, Robins admitted he had spoke to a supporter about the style of play the manager has implemented at the Sky Blues.

The manager explained the exciting football which City are playing at the moment will help the Sky Blues push on in League One and they will reap the rewards in the future.

“I spoke to a supporter the other day that said it was brave and said we could easily stick a big man upfront and go long, but that isn’t the way we want to play, we will win more games eventually doing it this way.

“There is a process we are going through, the players are being brave and last week it was a tough place to go to in Rochdale and with the playing surface against a side we haven’t beaten for a long time, I think it was eight attempts and to get the win in the manner that we did was excellent and some of the football we played was brilliant.

“There is a method and a way of going about things that we will continue. When you are going through that period people have to understand it because it is very easy to look at the run of results, we had that weren’t great and I understand that.

“At the start of the process I said we are going to have to take some on the chin because we have to get to a point where those results will start to improve and turn, and now everyone understands the way we are going about things.”

The Sky Blues have created the sixth highest amount of chances in all England’s top four divisions as of the end of January and the highest in League One.

Robins told how he is enjoying what he is seeing from his side and that ‘wins will come’ as the process continues.

“Something which is important for the fans to understand is that there is a process we are going through and the supporter I was talking to said he got it at Rochdale.

“He said he was just a supporter, and this is what I see, but I saw what you are trying to do which is encouraging for everybody.

“We have got to educate everyone, this is the way things are going and this is what we are doing, we have to enjoy the process and even though sometimes results are going against us, what is happening is we are creating performances which are similar in type and quality and we have just got to improve that and the belief will come.

“The wins will come, so we have to keep the belief from everybody, but this is the right way to go about things for our football club for a sustainable and successful future.

“From my point of view, I am enjoying what I am seeing and the fun they are having and look like they are enjoying what they are doing.

“I am happy with the way things are going and the result last week helped and the performance the week before was better than the result but almost there.

“Away from home a good result and at home a good performance where we gave a last-minute goal away, so we are almost there. We have to make sure we continue in the same vain and turn the results around. “

The Sky Blues boss refuses to resort to it

I assume it's the same as in #574 (not read all of that, but the gist sounds the same)

I'm OK with MR wanting to play a particular way and even starting all games in that manner if he wants.

What I take issue with is when those tactics are clearly not working in a game then something else needs to be tried - you need to test out the opposition to find a weakness. Just doing what you've been doing all game without success and then to make like for like subs with 5 minutes to go isn't going to cut it. It's why we rarely come from behind to win and need to have a lead to hold onto. What thats old adage about trying the same thing and expecting different results?

Even the likes of SAF would be willing to take a big guy and lump it into the box in the last 5 mins if necessary. Or stick a quick forward on to exploit tired legs or a team pushing up.

Personally I prefer playing to my players strengths, but also looking at the opposition and finding a potential weakness to exploit (ie big guy at the back play it on the deck to a small, quick footed foward, small defences play a targetman and get crosses in, if they play narrow or have dodgy fullbacks stretch it out and get the wingers involved etc.)

It is a bit worrying because if opposition managers find a way to get at us then other managers will soon learn to copy it and we're in a huge downward spiral and if that happens it appears that MR is not just incapable of finding a Plan B to stop the rot, he won't even look for a Plan B. In fact from the sound of it the worse we do the more he'll stick with it out of pure pigheadedness.

I like MR but this is not a smart way to look at things.

I'm as happy as anybody we have won two on the bounce.

He hasn't persisted with Chaplin and I think he will see most of the season on the bench now.

I wanted changes, they have happened!

I like MR but I think this will be his eventual downfall at the club as it’s a risky mindset to have. I understand what message he’s trying to get across but at some point in a season you need to dig in and play ugly. It’s not pretty but it can be bloody effective against the right opposition.

Pretty sure i never said that at ALL

I do rmemrber being very impressed with open letter and his promise to passing football and being ready to see it play out over time as clubs philosophy needed to change.

Never worked for elvis but now robins is doing same thing so just shows i am consistent and was right bscm then too!

No. It's not saying to lump it all the time. It's saying that when the pretty football is proving ineffective in a particular match you need another option to try and break down the opposition. Doesn't have to be lump it - it's just one of the potential options available.

If you just keep doing the tiki-taka stuff in a game it's not working in you'll more than likely lose that game - simple as. Our inability at coming back from behind shows this is a weakness of MR. That's OK - nobody's perfect. What isn't OK is that he refuses to spot this as a weakness in his coaching/mamagerial abilities and is holding both himself and the clubs he's managed back somewhat.

Take medicine. Loads and loads of people are helped/cured by penicillin - it's an amazing drug. But some people are deathly allergic to it. So if a doctor gives pencillin to an allergic patient you believe the best course of action would be to continue prescribing penicillin because it works on most other people would it? And if the things it currently cures mutated and became resistant to penicillin we should still continue with it?

And I wouldn't go calling other people uneducated chav cunts when you've got spelling and grammar like that (although I strongly suspect when you wrote that you'd been celebrating us winning with a tipple or two)
