His movement, pace and overall footballing ability is quality for this level. The people that have said he’s rubbish are clueless and probably can’t tell their arse from their elbow. Also probably never kicked a ball

To be fair to Grendel Hiwula started slowly. But I think part of that was trying to work out where to play him and what system he fits into. It’s no surprise that his good form coincides with the arrival of Bright. But you can tell Hiwula is very good at this level by his touch and movement. He’s only young still too so will only improve.
I respect Grendel’s opinion whether I think he’s right or wrong

My four-pennyworth on Hiwula is
1. He is not that good at the grunt work of being a striker. That is just the player he is, but you need someone to do that job as Max did last year..
2. But a high % of his goals are made by his own effort from very unpromising positions - long runs from the deep - Fleetwood was the latest. Really good goals that really count as such a high proportion of our wins have been by one goal.
3. He should get 9-10 in total this year, he has 8 so far I think. He needs to get more scruffy goals in the 6 yard box like the ones at Southend and Accrington (disallowed) which were headers close to the goal, to get his total up to 15+

I got laughed at for saying he’s better than Thomas at the start of season.

At the end of the day playing the positions they do goal output is king , and hiwula has more than double the goals

Yesterday, second half in particular, was notable for the pace, power and skillful ball control of attacks from Bright, Bakayoko and Hiwula. I haven't seen us attack quite like that for years. It was great fun, and long may it continue. In fact, with two of those three being our players, hopefully it will.

Bit of a late developer but turning into a decent player, Chaplin will do the same imo bodes well for next season, add a fit again Max things will only get better.

You would have thought Thomas' goal input would have improved as the season went on... It will hinder his career at a decent level.

I thought it was his best performance of the season, especially second half. He needs to do that more often when playing on the left. Personally, I'd prefer him through the middle in a 2.

I agree.

I’ve always been a fan and I recall having a few debates with others (the usual negative crowd on here) about it. He was guilty of missing a few sitters early on, and still does now (albeit to a lesser extent), but his ability was always obvious. It was the same with McNulty the year before (not that I’m suggesting Hiwula is McNulty).

The issue with players like Hiwula, Bakayoko, Bright etc, is fans will focus on one negative moment in a game and let that dictate their view of their overall play. For example, Hiwula missed a few good chance, but his movement, first touch, technique and footballing intelligence were always evident, just constantly overlooked in favour of a high profile miss.

Fans tend to get a boo boy and become blinded to anything good they do. It’s unbelievably obvious on the match threads, especially by one or two prominent posters.

He and Baka are L1 strikers, they may be able to play higher but at they are at this level for a reason, they score some goals, they miss some sitters, they don't have the speed of thought that affords them the ability to play at a higher level (at this moment in time), some improve which may, and that's why we have them, partial risk, partial hope increase in value if they do score a few. I never thought Madine would play at the levels he has done so every possibility with these two but again before the end of the season they will miss a few but hopefully also enough to give them a chance to shine in the championship next season

Absolutely. Not sure what happened yesterday, but that wasn’t the case (apart from one or two comments).

Long may that continue.

Have always rated hiwula, he just can't play with his back to goal.

Running towards goal, defenders don't know what he is going to do.

Easily one of our better players. His runs with the ball from deep are brilliant. Think he benefits from bright and baka a lot
