of course I want us to get to the final, however if we lose will people:

1) be angry that we didn't capitalise during the season to get to the autos?

2) put this down to good experience for the team and fans and is puts us in good stead for next seasons assult for promotion? Of course some players will leave in the summer.

3) just disappointed overall?

Option 2. I would of course be disappointed (especially as we'd be losing to Notts C for whom I have all of a sudden developed a real loathing). But I think a 6th place finish was a fair reflection of our abilities and squad strength overall, and was definitely a reasonable result. It forms a platform for next season to challenge again, once we've strengthened in the transfer window.

But on the plus side Macclesfield, Tranmere, Oldham and Bury are all convenient for me (would stay at my mum's in Cheshire) and MK and Northampton are good away days so at least I'd get to more away games this time.

It's a long season and I'm not sure how much luck we got along the way, Jodi Jones was a big miss and with him fit all season I think things would be different

3. Mainly because I believe we could lose quite a few of our better players and future prospects. It will be increasingly harder to get out of this league rather than easier. Still I hope we can get up via Wembley.

Not angry we didn't capitalise, but will feel it was a missed opportunity.

Not sure on next season. As has been said, it's dependant on retention of all our best players. Do that and yep, we should be and do better.

Not at all convinced we will keep our best players though and I would certainly expect to see Bayliss and McNulty go in the summer.

That's my main worry. We could lose Bayliss, McNulty, Shipley and possibly Jones. If we do, I have no faith in the management to reinvest the money on adequate replacements. Next year could be hard in league 2.

Build upon what we’ve got and take it as a learning curve to go one better the following season.

I’d be confident of a top 3 finish second time around.

I disagree. It should be relatively easy crowds are well above average for this league.
If the budget is inadequate then the owners are not backing sporting success.

Not sure what to expect off the 4 relegated clubs.

Will MK have money to challenge? Wouldn't expect to see much from Bury or Oldham, but you never know.

Northampton were brilliant when they went up the year before, but they didn't last long up in League One now did they.

It’s tricky to assess the falling clubs, Oldham will go well as will Bury I think, both top 12 sides. Northampton could be a surprise package of them all with a tweak of there squad and MK Dons the worst of the bunch.

Disappointment that we miss out obviously but we'd go into next year with the nucleus of a squad and manager that now knows what this league is all about and have played together for a year. Even if we lose a few it isn't a complete rebuilding job and I fully expect us to go up next season.

Part of me doesn't give a shit what league we are in, definitely enjoying being competitive and would love to see us win the league. I think if we can keep most of the squad together and add a bit more depth we would be in with a good shout next season

Mixed emotions, but feeling more positive about the future, as for the first time in a few years the club [on the field only] looks like its planning ahead and building a system. MR has managed to secure a number of players already for next year, although I appreciate that some may move on if good offers are made. I only hope our owners give MR the budget for next year that means he can strengthen again.

From a financial point of view, if we lose either on Friday or in the Final, then it must be expected to sell the better players this Summer. Given that many are on 2 year contracts it is either that or risk losing them for nothing next Summer. I suspect there is very little in terms of extra money between League 2 and League 1. We have already sold a significant number of season tickets and should still be one of the top 3 clubs in terms of volume of home support in the league so that should help with player recruitment.

Of course winning the playoffs would be fantastic
But if we don't it's not an unmitigated disaster
Robins has developed the nucleus of a side that should be able to learn from this season in the division and push on next term
Yes some players will go if we're still in L2 but if so we are likely to get good money for them
Some of which can be used to bring in two or three match winners at this level to try to ensure automatic promotion
We'd hopefully be more of an attraction than in the past after a relatively successful season

If we lose on Friday or in the playoff final, and IF we're able to keep hold of our better players, we should be in good shape. My opinions:

We need to hope for better luck with injuries. The likes of Jones and Andreu being fit could have changed the entire dynamic of our season. I wonder how having Jones and Bayliss in the same team could have worked? Could have been exciting to watch.

We need more consistency. That's a painfully obvious thing to say. Would we have been more consistent without those two injuries? It probably would have helped, especially considering how much we struggled creatively at the time. We might find out next season if Jones comes back the same player he was early this season.

We need a better option in goal. For the outstanding moments he is capable of, Burge always seems to have a moment in him. He might benefit from having some experience to compete with. I don't think O'Brien is the answer to that. I know we are only a League 2 team, and I'm certainly not expecting Buffon. But there must be an experienced keeper out there that can bring some solid consistency, if we can afford to get one.

A lot hinges on how many of this team we can keep and if we can deal well enough to replace. Bayliss would be an obvious loss, but that could be unavoidable. If we can deal as well this summer as we did last, I think there is cause for optimism. Let's hope we don't go down the same route as last season and make a complete botch of the transfer window.

I just hope if we fall short this year we can avoid falling into the usual spiral of stagnate then sink. Coventry City in the Conference is a bit too close for comfort at the minute....

I'll give you my answer in 12 months time. If we don't go up this season but build on it, rather than another rebuild, and then get autos next time round then job done. Just taken longer than hoped.

If we get rid of half the squad and start all over again and miss out again next year who knows how long we could end up stuck in this division.

That's what usually happens.
Based on that, I would expect McNulty, Bayliss, Jones, and possibly Ponticelli to be gone next season.
There's more chance of players staying if we get promoted.
