if we get over the line and complete our rise from league 2 to the premier league, who is most responsible? Robins is the obvious one, Lampard for finally getting us over the line? Dean Austin and Chris Badlan for their amazing recruitment over the years? Doug?

This.

Would be like robins dribbling past 2 very tough defenders (league 1 and 2)with a trick to boot(checkatrade) and then crossing for lampard who has to hit the perfect shot to beat the hardest goalkeeper in the world(the championship)

Badlan and Austin have got a bad rep by some on here but our recruitment is the main reason we’re in this position. Not just the players but the personalities. I remember robins saying he would sit down and meet the player before any signing was confirmed. They’ve all bought in and gave 100%.

Robins is obviously the biggest proportion of credit if you're going back to league 2 as the starting point. It's easy to forget just how disjointed and toxic this club was at that time. We easily could've just become a club like Wigan / Bolton / MK Dons and just been league 1&2 fodder in a half empty stadium with awful owners because Sisu couldn't get us to an acceptable level to sell.

For me though the most impressive thing he did was stabilising us in the Championship. That first season back up was like boys v giants against some of those championship teams - I remember celebrating a point against Norwich like we'd just beaten Man City - we felt so far off competing with them. To then get us to a pen shoot-out away from the premier league was ridiculous really.

Obviously King has come in and his gamble with Lampard has clearly paid off. Lampard is doing a great job and deserves enormous credit if we go up, especially as champions but if the statue has Lampard's head, it needs to have Robins' body. *

*The statue comment is symbolism - I don't actually want a Frankenstein statue

Wouldn't underestimate Dave Boddy's role in the rise too. Worked very well in tandem with Robins and also brought the fans and club much closer together after some torrid years. Sure he'll be there to enjoy it if and when we go up.

The Linesmen in the Notts county away leg of the playoffs! if he never put his flag up for offside it would of been 2-2 and momentum swung in to Notts County favour, a team we in league had struggled against and had we lost could of ended up stuck in League 2, and some Questioning Robins ability as he failed to get us up first time.

Robins and Lampard would be on a par for me, robins did something Lampard could of never done, and Lampard at the moment is doing something I didn't think robins was ever going to do, so youd have to give king credit for making the risky change.

but as someone said, lets be honest Tim fisher is the real hero!

There are many contributing factors all of which have been as relevant as the rest but Robins got us to a position where we are able to compete and for that he's at the head of the table

Marc McNulty.... the domino effect of him is massively understated.

Without McNulty theres no Chaplin, without Chaplin there is no Godden... Without Godden we don't win league one - We then don't get Hamer and Gyokeres... both of which led to the squad we have today.

These threads are a bit silly as there’s no direct answer other than the fact is without King we wouldn’t be where we are now whoever was manager as we were out of money and preparing a fire sale of assets

I agree, King is vitally important. He didn't have to take the club and if he didn't who knows? Back to League 1 eventually most likely.
As for credit for managers, the credit is for what they achieved. Robins gets the credit for taking us from league 2 and back to The Championship which looked a really difficult ask, especially under those owners! Lampard gets the credit for getting us to the Prem, something I didn’t think i'd see again. Its his achievement and should be recognised as such (if we get it done.)

Badlan is the hipster pick, not only for building the L1 title-winning side (that also held its own in the Championship) but for bringing in Gyokeres and Hamer whose transfer fees eventually bankrolled the whole operation.

It's a collective. You can pin point the changes chronologically that each one had something to do with the change in fortunes.

1. When SISU finally accepted they needed to back Robin's to some extent and allowed money to go back into the club
2. Robin's and Vivash's excellent stewardship that followed.
3. Ashley getting hold of the stadium
4. King coming along and seeing a glaring opportunity
5. The departure of Vivash and King strikingly sacking Robin's recognising Robin's had taken us as far as he could
6. Appointing Frank Lampard, thus raising the profile of the club.
7. Backing Lampard in the transfer market and fixing a football club in need of renewed purpose.

(If, and it's a big if, we do make it) I think it should be a "with thanks" style movie credits thing (the below list is an example and not at all exhaustive)

With thanks to:
Mark Robins
Adi Viveash
Frank Lampard
Joe Edwards

With no thanks whatsoever:
Wasps
SISU Capital
Coventry City Council
and the Villa too
