Given that it now looks like the club have misled many fans into buying a season ticket on the basis that we were signing Marlon King then I think we have a right to expect them to spend big on a proven player. Anything less will not be good enough. Kevin Philips and Ishmail Miller are not in the same class. The board have to spend really big now.... Robbie Keane what you doing?

Agreed. I still think that Kevin Phillips would be a brilliant signing. If we were to sign him and another striker, I would be very happy. Then let Eastwood, Platt and O'Donovan go to release some funds for wages.

Perhaps I'm being neive, but I don't think the club intentionally misled the fans, I reckon they genuinely believed King was planning sign when he came back off holiday. Their fundamental flaw was to relay so much information to the fans. If they'd said "marlon to make decision next week" we'd all have been relatively content that there was a point in time for us to all focus on, regardless of the outcome. It just seems worse now because they told us he was coming back to sign for us, rather than merely give us his decision.

The worst thing is, he probably did intent to go on holiday, then come back and sign for us. However, he probably had a constant filthy flea in his ear for the duration of his trip in the form of his agent who managed to sway his thoughts towards the money.

Sadly for Marlon we can all see where it's leading for him.

1. Signs 3 year contract for Birmingham
2. Scores a few goals in the first few games, but nothing exceptional
3. Gets injured, or rotated for another striker, and other striker does ok
4. Marlon Can't get back in the team
5. Brum get promoted/play-offs
6. Brum sign another mediocre striker
6. Marlon offloaded in the close season for nothing after playing 10 games.

Just to note. When I said 'agreed', that was to us going for a high quality replacement, not agreeing that we had been misled. I agree with JCR on that. The club didn't intentionality mislead the fans. They had no reason to believe that Marlon would go back on his word.

If this sickening news has any credit, then its just a typical day in the the every day life of, disappointed, frustrated, and angry sky Blue Fans, one minute they build us up the next, they slap us down.
I myself Bought 4 season tickets, on the strength of the new feel good factor, surrounding the Club, and the assurance from the Directors that Marlon King was re signing, maybe their word is no more honourable, than the word of Marlon King, either way it now seems it would have been less painful to the fans if Marlon had walked away, with no assurances about signing,it certainly Blows a hole in my feel good factor for next season.

I know it's been hinted at by many, but there's really no logical way that the announcement was purely a PR stunt to sell more of anything. Nobody with any business acumen whatsoever would falsify information for short-term reward that could be contradicted within a handful days and lead to long-term resentment. Anyone who'd purchased something based on an announcement from last Friday would have still have plenty of time now to seek a refund.

I'm sure they knew the timing would help coincide with a kit launch and so on, but only in conjunction with it being a truthful story, or at least what they believed was the truth at the time. It'd be fiscal hara-kiri any other way.

Yes it is very coincidental that the verbal signing was at a similar time to the new kit coming out!

The other side is that the club have been shat on like us fans, could be that Marlon has turned and signed for the bigger better deal

Agreed but it could have been a stunt from King and his agent to stir up an interest in other clubs and get them to offer him a better deal?

Impossible, we only got King because he was a jailbird.
