I dont think he would. Plenty of attacking midfielders that score goals in the championship. The PL is a huge step up.

Some need to be careful having little digs about him. Not that long ago our side was peppered with Callum Reilly, Stuart Beavon, Farrend Rawson, Kyel Reid and the like. Enjoy the good things we have and stop picking at the chinks in everybody's armour.

I think it's mainly because of the way it's completely over egged by people like Grendel.

It's more likely that if Villa had gone down, Grealish would have been off a season earlier and O'Hare would have stayed.

Meanwhile, if I was less fat, 20 years younger, could run more than 50 metres and could pass a ball, I'd be playing in City's midfield...

I am a massive fan of O'Hare but I think there is more to it than that. There is a big gap between being good Championship player and an adequate Premier league player. He has some attributes that would take him beyond being adequate in the Premier league but at the moment there are aspects of his game, not just finishing, that are not Premier league standard. That is not to say that he won't get there, and my guess is that he will eventually.

Find it amazing that people will fall over themselves to big up minor achievements from players with no obvious pedigree (He passed to Dabo! He did a stepover!), but when it comes to a young player like O’Hare who’s played more than 100 times for us at a very high standard, he’s a flop unless he plays like the complete #10.

I’m sorry if the fact he’s not Phil Foden irritates you, but don’t pretend like he hasn’t been one of our best players for the last two years.

If its over egging then the fans of every other team we play are over eggers too.
...as well as most opposition managers who clearly identify OHare as the player they must nullify.

He's a serious talent at this level and a great asset to the club.

It's possible to say that he's one of our best players and vital to the way we play... and that he's a dreadful finisher.

The two do not cancel each other out. Both statements are true.

Yeah as I said on the thread, fans of other teams don't have to watch it every week.

Exactly.

Saying he can't shoot and is very wasteful doesn't mean he doesn't work hard, press etc etc.

He needs to be stronger and stop falling down! Last night he was running down the right an opposition player put his arm across and he went down like a bag of shite, whereas if he got a bit more aggressive he would have got to the edge of their penalty area and put Dabo through. Also the bookings ceiling is effecting Hamers game.

It was mentioned in another thread about the composure needed to play in the Premier League. He lacks it when it really matters. I'd be surprised if plays regularly above Championship level.

He’s nothing like Gerry Daly as a player but he is the one player you want playing every week as everything revolves around him

I've not seen one poster who defends him, including myself, say he's a good finisher.

I've have seen his detractors use all sorts of mental gymnastics to try and prove their point.

5 or 6 weeks ago where it was pointed out that he'd set up several chances for other players but they'd missed them they said they weren't sitters even though they were more difficult than the ones they were calling out O'Hare for missing.
One of his most vocal detractors has been on his case since L1 when he was part of the team that won the league, embarrassing really.

He's one of the worst finishers I've ever seen and yet once again, our big name striker missed two easier chances.

Allen's finishing is just as poor too.

You could compare him to the fella that came from Derby - BUT he never stops running , always tackles back , doesnt get injured so easily - he is super fit - he is a very important part of the team structure , he is a diamond with the fans - he has played continually with one short break , he gets three or four players around him immediately that arnt getting onto Vik or Godden

wash your mouths out !

And there is far more to his game than the running and tackling. His movement is exceptional, as is his use of space, his anticipation, his close control and his vision. Opponents target him leaving more room for our other players. He is ahead of a lot of Premier League midfielders on these aspects. That's why if he overcomes the weaker areas of his game he could become a good Premier League player.

I don´t think you can really argue that mental gymnastics are being used to criticism him, but not be able to accept that it is happening the other way too. It isn't just about his finishing for example, it is people who will blindly refuse to accept when someone says something negative about him or asks questions.

I prompted a debate on here recently with some pretty fair questions, although in hindsight the thread title was a bit out of order and sensationalist. Granted despite that slight regret, I must admit it has made for some amusing throwbacks when he does something good. Anyway, the frustration where a lot of that came from is that some fans are so desperate to defend him though hell or high water, that they will start saying silly things such as ´he made a great run for the goal´, when he was no where near anyone making the assist or putting the ball in the net. Or ´he won a throw in there´ just to deflect from the fact he missed a sitter two minutes previously. Either that or 'unlucky not to score'. How many times have we heard that?

He is clearly a fantastic asset for the club, and one thing I have certainly touched upon before is that his attitude is superb. When it comes to not giving up and getting stuck in, but also how he comes across in interviews. He is hungry to do well and you can see how much it means to him. It is something I think a lot of other players could learn from. That all being said, his end product is shocking and it is of serious detriment to the team. A lot of it is in his head as well. You know that because in the two games he has scored in this season, he then played the rest of the game like Messi, and that has sometimes continued for a game or two afterwards, before we see him fluffing his lines again a few weeks later. Again, possibly because he gets frustrated with himself and loses his head.

We have missed sitters all over the park this season, so you cannot just say COH's assists are low because only the times he plays the balls the other players miss. It all balances out, but is part of a bigger picture. 1) That our overall end product as a team isn't good enough, but 2) He is still a massive part of that. For the sake of balance people need to know how to give credit at times better, granted, but also that when he does do something shit, not just to start talking about something completely irrelevant in desperation because they cannot bear the overall reality. I think that is what spills over, because now every match we have two extremes taking over the match thread.

Yawwwwn what a tiresome argument. Why is it so unthinkable for people to not turn a blind eye to his shooting ability?

If Allen gets into the same positions as O’Hare, I expect him to at least worry the keeper.
Same with Sheaf, Hamer, Shipley, <enter player name>

Grendel always posts positively about O’Hare. Quite rightly, although like all of our players, he’s not perfect, but he is integral to the way we play. What I also like about him is that he never drops his head, and despite the missed chances (which will hurt him more than anyone on this forum), he takes the next shot, and the next shot. I just hope we do keep him in the summer.

Don’t care who the player is. Although I agree Allen is really no better in front of goal, the bottom line is COH’s final product 9/10 times is crap.

“He wouldn’t be ours”. Bore off, why shouldn’t people expect more out of a number 10 at this level?

Allen and Shipley have missed loads of chances. Hamer has a couple long range howlers a match too.
