Just died. I never saw him play but I met him a couple of times. A real rarity in the boardroom, a highly intelligent person with great people skills who really understood football. He gave a lot to City over many years.
Yep, player, director and one season as Chairman. Good man!
He was Chairman for one year following a rather turbulent time with Jimmmy Hill as chairman, and seemed to steady the ship, also supporting Bobby Gould bring in virtually a new team (including Peake, Benno, Gynn and Terry Gibson) after the previous seasons team were allowed to virtually all come out of contract at the same time, and then leave (some in a right old hissy fit at the sacking of Dave Sexton - the sh*t hateley being one of them)
He seemed to bring the club back to the fans and oversaw a right old seesaw season when at one point we got to third or fourth after beating the then Champions Liverpool 4-0 at home (terry Gibosn hattrick) only to see the club in freefall in the second half of the season and just stay up in the last game......sounds familiar!
I can remember him playing when I used to up to Highfield Road in the mid - 50's ! A brilliant wing-half, formed a mid field of 3 - Iain Jamieson, Martin McDonald and Noel Simpson. Times have changed, as a young lad (12 years old) I used to love my Saturdays watching CCFC in the 1950's. No show offs, no ridicululous wages, just 11 men playing football for an average working man's wage. Nostalgia from this 70 years old long suffering but loyal supporter !

At least you got to see a successful CCFC side, I started supporting CCFC aged 4 (when we were in the prem, at this age, I thought div 3 was the best league below the prem!) but never went to a game in the prem and have only watched a failing CCFC, on and off the pitch! Fair play to you.
