Absolutely. Makes you wonder if Chelsea or Arsenal decided to relocate to the City, how many would take the Italia attitude of "great chance to see a Premiership team".

It won't last, Coventry folk can't even be arsed to turn up for teams that have been around for decades let alone shithouse franchises. Once the initial novelty value wears off and the tickets are no longer free, they'll struggle to get a few thousand. Then hopefully they'll go bust and fuck off to where they came from.

Is that also the Sisu plan because if it is we have years of the same crap and more lost fans?

All Sisu need to do is get a good deal from Wasps and this is the time to do it.
They have alluded to it so lets push them on it.

People, including myself, are getting pissed of that there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm tied in this year with my season tickets but another 6 months of this and I will think twice about renewing.

Of course, early bird prices on Wasps will be on then.

There are more glory hunters than City fans in Coventry, I imagine huge numbers would do so.

The figure for the first game isn't going to show us much, look how many turned up for Gillingham! The more telling figure will be next season. Presumably by then the freebies will have been massively scaled back and they'll have to try and sell season tickets to people travelling a long way when there isn't free transport on offer or replace the existing season ticket holders with locals.

You cant call them anything Brighton. Look at it from another angle, Real Madrid play Barcelona in an exhibition game at the Ricoh. Your offered a ticket for 15 quid and decide its good value. How can anyone call you anything for going to watch the game and supporting one team or another just because their not CCFC. Peoples arguments on the whole Wasps saga don't add up, the only argument any one can have against them is that they are a franchise and the way they have treated their fans is appalling.

And the Saints, who lets not forget are current Champions and top of the league.

I am a Saints fan, as I have previously admitted, and I havent met one person yet who will be attracted by Wasps. To be fair most Rugby fans I know think its one big joke, a huge throw of the dice which will end in failure and ridicule. I will raise a glass to that!

Doesn't really surprise me, certainly not for the first game anyway.

Fair few Northampton people watched us at Sixfields remember so not really any different to that.

An exhibition game is not the same as permanently relocating.

Wycombe had a steady and large drop off from the time they arrived until they lost. The 'skill' will be them avoiding similar this time out...

As I said in my post that is all any one can have against them. Coventry is more working class than middle or upper middle class. The demographics for the type of supporters Wasps want to attract is vastly different to Citys, I doubt their will be only a very small percentage of cross over supporters. That said an exhibition game is not the same but the freedom of choice to attend is, the Wasps support who travel from the London area are still the ones I feel sorry for. I would also assume that the demographic that wasps attract are not as inclined to have a view that is as entrenched as a lot of us on here.

Get a good deal? how exactly? What is our bargaining position? We cant even prove to Wasps we can get 8000 through the turnstiles. To them we are a dead duck and they will put up with us for the duration of the rent deal and then want rid.

At what point does it become more viable for CCFC to say pick up Hinkley UTD's venue and for a small investment increase capacity ,but take all they generate?

It all relates to whether you believe that it was moving to the Ricoh or packing up altogether.

It will be a similar decision for fans if CCFC decide they have no option but to move, to say Warwick or Solihull.

Is a bit of a gloaty article.

I don't get how it can be the guy's childhood dream to play at a packed Ricoh arena? It wasn't built when he was a child?

There is no way wasps will want rid, the only downside to us is the extra wear on the pitch (and they are purchasing an expensive hybrid one) the upside is rent, extra footfall to the arena and the businesses there which also increases the rent they can charge their tenants, the football club being there increases the money they can get for selling the stadium naming rights. It's absolutely in wasps interest for us to be there and for us to thrive. It's easy to see how us being in the premiership would bring in millions a year more for wasps.

You will need to ask Wasps as they are talking about it.
Both teams are out on a limb at the moment and maybe, just maybe the 2 working together will be a success.

The alternative is a bigger risk of a new stadium, which CCFC again can't finance and will be subject to similar problems as at the Ricoh, or liquidation.

CCFC can't finance getting to the Prem either but you keep going on about us breaking even with a rental deal if we do that?

I think that is the view CCC came to ,and thus we are where we are .

The question they were faced with after witnessing the last three years particularly ,What secures the project WASPS or SISU ?

Personally IMO ,the first thing SISU would have done would have been to flip the asset ,not saying Wasps wouldn't /couldn't .

Something convinced CCC the latter wouldn't ,or at least generates the Income required to fulfil the brief.

Why would the demographic be any different to Leicester ?
Wasps will need to target Warwickshire and West Midlands in addition to their dwindling London support.
They obviously think there is a void here in the strange Rugby hierarchy.
I don't fully understand it but their seems to be an elitism in the top league that stops smaller teams like Coventry and Moseley getting into it.

In your opinion.
If Leicester and Southampton can do it there is no reason we can't.
I refuse to believe anything else.

Bloody hell, I'm used to getting a rough ride from time to time, and I'm happy to accept constructive criticism, but I'm not sure what I've really done wrong here?

Could it be that people are annoyed with the actual subject matter and are directing that anger / frustration at me / the CT?

Seems like a fairly balanced article to me? The fact the figure includes season ticket holders and 3,500 free tickets is fairly high up in the story.

Perhaps the Gillingham game attendance would have been a fairer comparison. I accept that. But the fall from that initial gate is also interesting, and something some have predicted might also happen at Wasps.

Only time will tell.

To suggest I have any affinity for Wasps, particularly over the Sky Blues, is nonsense I'm afraid.

The fact is they will be a permanent Coventry team. We will have to cover their successes - and their failures. I'm sorry if people don't agree with that decision. We are certainly not the only media outlet who will be reporting on Wasps.

Sounds a bit off, yes they have got rid of that many tickets it is fact. But then it is straight in BOOM to make ccfc look crap and Wasps good. It might just be how I read it.

Exactly. I do feel the CT - and fair enough if you disagree, Simon - go out of their way to put the club down. It's not very nice being kicked whilst we are on our knees. Particularly by the local paper who should be our main supporter. CWR don't have the same "attitude".

I was quoting Richard Cockerill from Tigers. Born in Coventry, coaches Tigers and understands our demographic, he can not see where their support will come from. He went on to say that he would think that they are hoping to attract fans from the surrounding conurbations that occasionally watch Leicester, Worcester and Northampton but are not willing to travel.

Pleased to have your name on it though Simon, no acknowledgments of who came up with the subheading. How many free tickets do the Telegraph have?

I expect they will get a boost for the first and maybe one or two following games before it settles into something more like 7/8k.
17k is in fact around half capacity at that so playing in front of a packed Ricoh as Goode says is hardly likely. But good luck to them.
I'm not a Rugger fan but if in Coventry I may have gone to see what all the fuss was about just once.

The better WASP owners do the more likely we may see a bid from them for CCFC perhaps.

It's not just how you read it, it's how it was intended. Wouldn't be surprised if soon CCFC is an afterthought to the Telegraph, we will open the paper and we will have a small corner on the third or fourth page back with our result in small print whilst the backpages are dedicated to a London Rugby team.

If you compare Wasps first ever game at the Ricoh with a bog standard crowd against Walsall and say 'look how much better that is', it comes across as gloating. As I said, can't jeapordise the free tickets.
