But I've just looked at some pics from today's game and I struggle to see our players against the backdrop of empty sky blue seats. Theres the picture of the winner and all you can see is three Carlisle players in their dark kit. Its only when you look closely can you see 5 of our players.
Now it mightn't be difficult to decipher from up in the stand but from pitch level I think it could be part of the problem

I think thats a very valid point. In a game where split seconds can make a difference it is important. Man city seem to be able to cope with the colour but they dont have the empty seat problem.

Perfectly put. Especially when a team consists basically of strangers who don't know each others game. It could help explain miss placed passes. However it doesn't excuse the bad attitude and laziness
I suppose it's also worth noting that our Most successful seasons in recent history we have worn bold stripes. (Dublin, huckerby era and 87)

Man city / man utd/ chelsea etc also have a packed stadium with a lot of people wearing the club shirt and the players can still pick out their own players from that back ground. It's the players that are the difference

I think it's a valid point. The music, the kit.. the details are important. Not sure there's a massive performance benefit attached but the predominantly bold kit of Telfer/Dublin/Huckerby was more imposing than anything since.

We had this same question a few weeks ago.

Paxman and I were discussing the ripping up of everything and starting again, from the kit to everything else.

As I said at the time, psychology can play a part in all aspects of the game and I do think there is too much association with the past and harking back to the days of the Sky Blue Revolution. Something we have never been able to live up to since.

We certainly do need to at least look at everything and every possibility.

I do think the kit at the moment looks a little washed out ........ and so unfortunately, do the players.

You may not have noticed, but most clubs play in shirts that match the colour of the seats, and most teams in this division play in grounds that are no more than a third full most weeks.

In fact, there are 7 grounds that are less full than the Ricoh on average - MK Dons, Notts County, Oldham, Carlilse, Walsall and Bury. Should the likes of Oldham and Walsall not experience this problem?

Then we can talk about sightlines and the fact players will only be in full profile against a backdrop of seats in certain areas of the pitch but that would just be boring.

Honestly, this is a wind up right?

Edit: Although I do agree with the point made by Otis that the current kit is a bit wishy-washy.

Although it may be walking on sacred ground, Cyril is correct in his observation, Our Sky Blue strip is bland and insipid, especially in the murky days of winter, not saying that it is the root cause of our problem, but it is Harder to pick out our players than the opposition, the picture proves Cyril's point, we just blend into the background of empty Sky Blue seats.
Again, I may be tempting Fate, But is it not now time to change our Sky blue image on the pitch, at least Jazz the strip up to contain a couple of high contrast colours so it would be easier to pick them out, at the present time we stand at our lowest point for Decades, so it could be just the time to Re Image ourselves as a Foot ball club, The Cup Final Strip was miles Better than Sky Blue, would it be worth a punt, or would the die Hard traditionalists find it Blasphemy.

Perhaps we need to invest in seats that can change colour to whatever the opposition is wearing. Surely we'd win the league. Seriously if it really was a problem the players would be banging on about it as they aren't shy when it comes to giving reasons for failure.

The FA Cup strip was so much better. I love that kit and not just because we won the cup. I really like the stripes.

Psychologists have said in the past that stripes can give the illusion of making a player look bigger too.

The picture doesn't really prove anything, because how things appear through a lens are not how they are seen in person. You might argue that the kit is easier to pick out against the backdrop if you only had this picture:

And like I say, what of teams that play in royal blue who have royal blue seats? The 'issue' would (if there were any substance to this) be an issue throughout the lower leagues, but I've never heard it mentioned before by anyone (ever).

Kit is too pale for me, but it matches the retro kit from last season that people loved because they say the colour matched the 1960s kit. Go back down the stripe route, especially the darker stripes as in the cup final kit, and people would be up in arms. Can't win really.

I'm all for the Team Sky mantra of marginal gain - but the kit thing is a complete red herring if you ask me.

I read it at first and laughed, but the more you think about it you think it could be true. From the stands we see blue on green, but at their level it will be harder.

It's by no means an excuse, just a small factor among the much bigger factors perhaps

What I didnt understand is Tranmere away, we are playing a team who wear all white, so we chose our home kit which is all pale blue, I couldnt concentrate on the tv highlights on the news, atleast the vivid yellow and blue combo may have stood out a bit more!

Regarding the blue / blue seat clash, how much of that netting to seperate then fans do we have, maybe cover the first ten rows in black netting :claping hands: (obviously im joking)
