but yes he is not imprisoned I wouldn’t go so far as freedom
Was he not disciplined for gross misconduct? Or just suspended pending court case?
I’ve not read that
Should someone who stops offending before being caught, pleads guilty and shows remorse be treated differently to someone who hasn’t done those things?

He's a nonce. He should be locked up and away from children.

He has millions of pounds and his freedom, lets not pretend otherwise.

I'm sure plenty of people sent down for shouting at coppers stopped offending before they were arrested too, still serving time while a sex offender is free (but he said he wouldn't look any more).

absolutely take the point of deterrent and victim having been damaged and risk of reoffending but would imagine he’s on the sex offenders register for a period of time

Edwards was not disciplined - he was off air due to mental health issues and resigned in April which meant he was paid a massive salary for many months after he plead guilty.

He paid a convicted paedophile to send pictures on Whatsapp - he could access free adult images if that is all he wanted. He was only caught when the pervert sending him images was himself caught.

He was a well known figure in a position where he was able to use power and influence.

Despite calls for he to refund the pay received after his plea he has opted to keep his money.

He has shown no remorse and blamed health issues for his behaviour.

Clearly not just me given he’s been given a
suspended sentence by the judge in this case
What danger is he to children in your expert opinion?
You’d be gobsmacked by the statistics Dom
The danger is you don’t know who you can trust because blokes can’t engage in meaningful discussion about this stuff because it becomes a battle over who can look the most tough
Think earlier on this thread I showed some police statistics showing up to 750000 males in the uk have viewed criminal pictures of abuse. That’s about 1 in 50 of the uk population. We have 85000 prison places where are you putting the other 700000?
So you have to balance the risks.

Not what the psychologist said in court today about remorse and judge took it as mitigation. I don’t know the guy just quoting what I’ve read

You have bothered to read that but nothing about his resigning and not being accused of gross misconduct? Nothing about taking a pay rise when actually pleading guilty?

How very selective of you.

Here’s your summary
It also appears the bbc are asking for his pay to be returned £200k since he was arrested

  • Edwards was given a six-month jail sentence suspended for two years - so he will not go to prison unless he offends during that time
  • He will be on the sex offenders' register for seven years, and will have to complete rehabilitation
  • In July he admitted three offences of making indecent images of children. This means "to cause to exist, to produce by action, to bring about" - so in downloading them, he committed the offence
  • Of the 377 images found in Edwards' possession, 41 were indecent. One was of a seven to nine-year-old; most were of 13 to 15-year-olds
  • The crimes were discovered by South Wales Police who found the messages on the phone of another man, Alex Williams
  • Prosecutors said in court today that Edwards runs a "risk" of re-offending and they had only seen some of the communications - only the WhatsApps could be recovered
  • Edwards' defence said the former newsreader "has no memory of viewing any particular images"
  • The defence also said Edwards had suffered mental health problems, with a psychiatrists' report saying the risk of Edwards taking his own life was "high and significant" if imprisoned
  • Sentencing Edwards, Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring said: "It is not an exaggeration to say your long-earned reputation is in tatters"
  • He also said: "I am of the clear view that you do not present a risk or danger to the public at large, specifically to children. There is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation"

My view is that as he was classified as medium risk, that alone justified a custodial sentence.

However your statement is daft, that’s just tabloid thinking, it’s not that simple and every case is different.

Indecent Images & Loopholes | Criminal Defence Solicitor | London & South East

Clear explanation of indecent images with loopholes to consider. Call me if you have a voluntary interview at the police station or a summons or charge for the Magistrates or Crown Court.
www.defencesolicitor.net

We really do walk around in cloud cuckoo land until we’re presented with something like this or unfortunately our lives are touched with it

As you can see from the link

Despite the sentencing guidelines I would advise that for straightforward possession of images an immediate custodial sentence is highly unlikely, the most likely sentence would be a community order or suspended sentence. Obviously in this case he did produce them I think so that’s slightly different

It’s bizarre for so many people not to understand the law of the land

Agreed and the justice system does throw up bizarre differences in treatment for crimes that don’t seem to match up

Causing death by dangerous driving is always one that doesn’t seem to match

So it's not tabloid thinking as ROS stated .. a man purchased over 40 images of children some showing penetration between the ages of 7 and 9 years old .

He deserves a custodial sentence and to be on the sex offenders register for life

Pretty logical thinking if I may say so

It’s not though as then you’d be treating him in the same way as the person who made the images and who distributed the images.

There’s degrees of criminality and appropriate sentences for each of them.

As I said above you can’t imprison all 750000 of them.

I wonder how many on here have become or are addicted to porn who need help to avoid it escalating who are looking at this thread and thinking suicide is probably a better idea than trying to get help

Of course
If you look at the lucy faithful foundation stuff many men find what excites them doesn’t keep exciting them and so they want something a bit more and that’s where the criminality can start

Not all some just have an attraction to children

Then you should have more awareness. I had someone who worked for me for 2 years who was sent down years later for downloading images and has been to prison twice - a married man, a pillar of the community - and no surprise to me - and a man who will never be safe around young boys

I find it baffling that he has escaped prison and doesn’t even have to register as a sex offender for life.

Justice in this country as ever is apportioned based on power and wealth, not the severity of the crime.

It’s not just being sent and downloading them that’s the issue, it’s the wider harm on the children being forced to take part, which is why he should have got a custodial sentence.

This is completely different to someone genuinely downloading something by mistake or getting sent something that he didn’t want.

I just find your stance very odd.

The grim reality is that Huw Edwards has paid someone to provide him with images of young boys being anally raped. Terrified, innocent children subjected to vile disgusting abuse so Mr Edwards can have his entertainment and then go and present the news. Mr Edwards doesn’t care or he’d have reported it when the images were sent to him. He didn’t.

How can any decent person believe Mr Edwards is allowed tonight to walk the streets a free man?
