It's a bit of a quandary about Middlesbrough's game on Friday. They play Plymouth and I am not sure what to wish for

I was hoping that Plymouth would have been all but down by the time we played them, but we could do without a Middlesbrough win, really.

A draw be the best outcome maybe? I think that would probably be best, because that ensures Boro stay behind us and Plymouth may just be cut adrift slightly again if the likes of Derby and Hull win. Plymouth could be 5 points behind with just 3 games to go.

If Plymouth won at Middlesbrough, I think they would then really fancy their chances against us on the Monday.

What does everyone reckon?

A Plymouth win without doubt

I know your in-laws like to gaslight you a bit. In fact i know what fans of other Midlands clubs are like when talking about Cov in general, but these are the stats i found from their home win against a very mediocre Watford side, which was also their first win in 6.
I don't really like playing West Brom based on historical results and the injury situation isn't great, but lets not fluff them up to be something they aren't. Bet the fans who wanted Corberan gone feel stupid right now thats for sure.

When Corberan left, I’m pretty sure that I posted that they’d drop out the playoffs. I don’t mean to disrespect Mowbray but he really isn’t anywhere up to that standard and Corberan had them punching above their weight.

Corberan was the best manager in the league imo.

If Plymouth win and we win, we go into the Plymouth game 6 points ahead. So do the maths and it means we go into that Bank Holiday Monday game without needing a result.

We beat them a few seasons ago. Our record home and away against them is dreadful though.

This is the thing.

I’m fairly relaxed about the whole thing because if we can’t get 4 points from WBA/Boro at home we’re not winning the play offs anyway

he was better, but position wise he switches off too often. they all got dragged over to the right for the goal, but there was far too much space behind him. He's not a defender and too often gets exposed.

West Brom have got good players, they weren't just high up the table because of Corberan.

Dasilva has been much better of late but his defensive upturn amounts to 3-4 totally standard slide tackles. Also, he and Van Ewijk both favour the very early slide tackle - very risky penalty wise

Do you think he’s a better manager than Corberan? I don’t think WBA’s team is particularly great, it was a manager who was arguably the best in the league keeping them in the playoffs.

They’ve drew 18 games ans we’ve won more games than them.

One thing that was very impressive last night, was after Hull equalised.

Quite often we then end up with our backs to the wall in games following an equaliser, with the opposition pushing for a winner, but we got straight back on it last night and pushed even harder still for the winner ourselves.

Great to see.

I think that Hull had a lot to do with that - they really didn't take the impetus which must have been frustrating for their fans to see.

Frustrating game, but the performance was pretty good albeit against a poor and very accommodating opposition. A bit more conviction and luck from Simms and Wright in specific moments and we'd have won.

MVE had a terrific game, but wish he'd shoot more often and early. He gets into dangerous positions a lot to shoot and doesn't back himself enough, I recall one opportunity to shoot where he squares to Sheaf (who I would back to score less often than MVE from range). MVE has been so much better this season under Lampard though and this was a great game for him.

Rudoni just unplayable all game.

Their keeper did well and held onto some stuff some others would spill, giving us a 2nd chance. All in all you have to say 2 points dropped but encouraged by the confidence with which we played. I don't think any other team we play this season will let us have so much space and possession though, so expect much tougher games. What we lack right now is a striker in form, I'd like to see Simms & Wright again on Friday and ideally they both score!

This place is funny at times.

Before the game....Crap 1st team. Bench awful.

After the game.....should have won. Strikers fault against a side that had only had 7 goals conceded in last 10 games.

Reality... ..away game 1.point. WBA at home next. Just a draw guarantees top 6.

We we're unlucky but that's football for you.

A draw just means we are in the top 6 for the next round of games on Monday

A defeat could mean we are 9th.

If we do not win I think we will not make the top 6

If we could win two games of those remaining the two home ones are worth basically twice the others.

That injury time winner v Pompey now looks valuable! Personally I don’t fancy us against West Brom - never seem to do much v them. But no reason why we can’t beat the other three.

Even 2 wins in general isn't terrible. Would mean 2 sides need at least 9 points from 4 games to catch us.

I thought we were good last night. Hull’s goal was offside, and even the Kasey Palmer chance in the 1st half (their only chance in the first half) should have never been, as Sheaf was taken out seconds before.

Simms led the line well, and Wright although far from his best, still looked dangerous. Both could of have had a brace.

That Grimes-Sheaf-Rudoni midfield 3 were running rings round Hull for most of the match.

Felt sorry for Dasilva, as he was probably slightly culpable for their equalizer. He’s really stepped up recently. Won all his duels against their tricky winger last night.

Collins always seems to concede these kinds of goals, where it takes a slight nick and wrong foots him (see Man U’s 3rd in the semi last year). Maybe I am being harsh, but I still think he could of done better there.
Agree with this, but it was not offside. There was actually a line across the pitch where the grass had been cut that proves it.
When a player makes a shot in the penalty area and the defender then clatters into him, it is a pen. Weak refereeing again.

We did play very well.

Not wanting to pee on anyone's chips or anything, but Hull were very, very poor.

I am hoping it's because we made them look poor, rather than anything
else. On the surface it did look like we played really well.

Collins barely had anything to do all night.

Tougher test on Friday for sure.

Hull had only let in 7 goals in their previous 10 games so although they're near the bottom their recent form isn't bad.

You know you haven't played badly when you haven't lost and MOTM is your opponents GK.

Not seen much of them this season so I'm with you there. Wouldn't surprise me that the main reason they're solid at the back is their GK. We only beat him with a deflected shot.
