Former Magpies boss eager to scratch managerial itch
Chris Hughton has told skysports.com that he is actively looking to get back into football management.
The former Newcastle boss has been out of the game since parting company with the Magpies back in December 2010.
He became the first Premier League casualty of the season upon being shown the door at St James' Park, despite many people believing he had done a commendable job on Tyneside.
Hughton helped to steady the Newcastle ship following their relegation in 2009 and led the club to promotion out of the Championship at the first time of asking.
He paved the way for what has been a successful return to the big time for the Magpies and is still held in high regard throughout football circles.
Appetite
The 52-year-old's stint in the Newcastle hot-seat was his first as a number one, but he has also worked in an assistant manager capacity at Tottenham and with the Republic of Ireland.
Having been out of the game for a few months now, Hughton admits he is looking to secure another post as quickly as possible.
Speaking on behalf of Barclays Ticket Office, he told skysports.com: "Yes, I am. I have used the time very well. I have watched a lot of games, not only Premier League games but Championship games and some games abroad. I think that whets your appetite to get back in.
"I am looking to get back in as soon as I can. I have used the time well and I think that's all you can do when you have a period out of the game."
Hughton is not setting his sights on any particular level, but hopes the hard work he has put in since leaving Newcastle will pay dividends once a position comes up.
Knowledge
He added: "You enjoy going to games anyway and you get to go without the pressure.
"It's also about players and the more games you watch, the more you learn about teams. You get to see different teams playing in different systems. What you will see is teams that you might not have seen before, or you haven't seen for a while. You get to see good players.
"It's a general thirst for football knowledge which you think will benefit you once you come back in."
It did not take Hughton long to get the managerial itch after leaving St James' Park and he admits that he cannot wait to get back into the hustle and bustle of life at a professional football club.
He said: "I'm keeping as busy as possible. You miss the general day-to-day being on the training pitch. You can only keep yourself as busy as possible."
