A great shame that with all the pressure that Ipswich didn’t apply , they only got a draw .
One shot on target , all game , but strolled through to get a point

0 shots on target as a penalty doesn't count

Have a look at the transfers so far. Hardly anyone have signed anyone decent. Norwich have but have lost the players that scored about half their goals. Birmingham could well be a threat. Ipswich should be in the top 2. Big questions about most other sides.

I certainly don't see 3 sides getting over 90 points this season. We're the closest to doing what Leeds did last season.

I think Josh Sargent is still with Norwich isn’t he atm anyway.

So glad Soton stuffed Wrexham in the 2nd half, the dream is over Ryan.

Yanks should only be allowed ownership of our clubs if they pass some sort of English football purity test

2bf I get what he’s saying -it’s a little misguided but he makes a point. Hes not talking about dominant over the English pyramid, he’s talking about internationally.

Basically he wants the English clubs to continue dominating the World club Cup and Europe - it’s the way you keep the Americans invested in the English league - they’re glory supporters at heart.

English clubs keep winning = Higher investment keeps flowing into the pyramid.

English clubs could remain more than competitive whilst flowing a significant amount down the pyramid still. This goon wants the NFL over here with a group of super clubs and fuck the rest. It isn't how we've done things and i resent the idea we should be dancing to the tune of American investors.

I totally see the point from a business perspective, i suppose i just hate how the sport is turning into that 'brand driven' bullshit.

Whats ridiculous? its clear he's saying that - Strong English teams = More money into the game. He's not saying lets keep the big 6 as it is.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are trying to muscle in on this pie, as are many others. We need the English teams to keep winning in europe and on the world stage, the money then flows in. You get the Qataris, Saudis, Americans now looking lower down the pyramid in order to get the next big thing.

But thats what sport in general ha become, the fans demand more, the interest goes up, more money flows in. Its not necessarily american investors, its worldwide investors. its not about being competitive - its about english teams being dominant.

Like it not the day of the local benfactor doing it for the love of the game has gone, Especially if you want to be an elite club. Which is what we want.

It may be what it's become but i don't have to like it or agree that the already huge disparities in finance should be widened. All i want, and i think plenty of fans agree, is to be entertained and to feel some sort of connection to my local club.

I get the distinct impression the foreign investors want an essentially closed shop where the very 'biggest' get to swim forever in a huge sea of money, regardless of whether their performance on the pitch warrants it. It stinks.

Also, i dont want any country, England included, 'dominant' in Europe, it's fucking boring. Nobody harks back to the 'good old days' of seeing two teams from the same country contest international tournament finals.

I think i'm getting old.

thats not a foreign investor thing entirely. Phil Gartside at Bolton was the first to tout a closed shop. Thankfully this football regulator has the power to stop this.

Like i said, i think his words are misconstrued, or poorly noted. like it not the rest of the pyramid relies on a strong Premier League, that league being dominant is what we need.

Ultimately it's all in the detail. I dont expect nor want the PL to send absolutely loads of money down the pyramid but i think there is scope for a greater share than at present. We dont have that detail from the article above, but essentially thats my view on it, they already get more than enough. A competitive, healthy domestic league is what i want, the depth in england is unique, let's keep that/improve on it.

The problem is we were complicit in this whole thing when we split away in 1992. The premier league gets the money as it’s, it’s own thing and markets itself as such.

problem we’re gonna have is you’re gonna need turkeys to vote for Christmas giving away funds.

Essentially that’s exactly what he’s saying. He’s coming at it from the mentality of an American sports fan, where the big teams are actually franchises playing in a closed shop whose superiority can never be challenged and the money therefore only ever flows in one direction. (There’s also some classic American trickle-down economics in there as to how us lowly teams could plausibly benefit from this)

It’s a pretty blatant attempt to cozy up to the Premier League in anticipation of Birmingham ever making it there. From a cynical POV it may well be a good way to keep the PL on top in financial terms. But it shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what makes English football unique and special compared to the NFL or NBA.

It's been a gradual process from there yeah, club's will act in their own interests ultimately, i just think there could and should be more of a balance struck. I also think the PL idea was one borne of a need to get away from the problems football had in the 80s, this particular trend is far more about just milking ever more money out of an already hideously over-saturated product.

Maybe we will end up with a bunch of money making super-franchises constantly playing each other, it sounds shit to me but ultimately my view counts for little.
