To be fair to sisu, they didn't actually get us into the position of having no assets which is a vital part of getting investment. They have done lots of things wrong and I think it is just a general naivety to running a football club. But until we have anything worthwhile eg the stadium, major investment is unlikely to come in, meaning sisu will be here for a while. Again, it's your opinion, you're entitled to it. But don't go around insulting people that disagree with it - even though, fundamentally, I'm not disagreeing with you!

I don't know. Leeds will always be a big club no matter what division they are in and therefore be able to attract players they want. The problem with them is their manager. I just don't think he's good enough to take them up. Every season he's been at Leeds they've started well and then fallen away dramatically (sound familiar!), only just getting promotion last year after leading the division by 9-10 points or something like that.

Southampton - I can see them definitely doing better than just consolidation. Very much in the Norwich mold.

Boro - depends what they do over the summer but I think Mowbray can turn it round there a bit. I'd still say they're midtable though.

It seems to get tougher every year! maybe it is so beacuse we allways start afresh, with new manager/players and away we go. The above mentioned teams seem to have pretty much same squad year in year out which helps. We had some momentum ending this year which we haven't had before, so fingers crossed if we keep 1-2 of the want aways then maybe we can have a real good go at it. I will reserve judgement on how we will do untill the "trio" saga has been resolved one way or t'other!!

There are some big sides left in the league that we failed to compete with last year but to assess if its stronger, as we don't yet know who has signed who, all we can do is simply look at the teams who have changed.

OUT: QPR (high budget and some quality players), Norwich (well done but over-achieved) Swansea/Reading (we matched these and with the exception of Sinclair who will undoubtedly be in the PL regardless of result, neither are great teams). Sheffield United (very poor last season), Scunthorpe - played ok football but pretty poor and small side, Preston (decent side got off to a bad start and never recovered - thankgod they've gone as they always beat us!)

IN: West Ham, Birmingham, Blackpool (all financially secure with strong squads and parachute payments. Don't know who they will lose yet, but will have funds available for replacements unlike those relegated last term). Southampton, Brighton P'boro/Huddersfield - decent budgets for the tier below, Brighton have good players and a new ground. All will be confident.

On the whole I think it will be much stronger and less competetive over all but even more competetive in the middle positions of 6-18 where I can see us firmly entrenched. A few results either way will likely make the difference between a good season and a bad one.

Myself and my wife runt he pub along with my lad (23) i also have a lod of 16, we are all season ticket holders mate, other than this missus, don't want to spoil my day, i'll let cov do that, LOL. we have a coventry city quiz for charity every year and it goes down a storm, packed out with cov fans, Danny Thomas joined us this year to sign autograghs and joined in the quiz (and drink me out of red wine!!!) the head groundman is my lads good friend so he provides us with players shirts and other stuff for raffle prizes and auction stuff, it really is a great Cov night (with a drink till you drop night)

it's a proper village pub, no food just beer, no frills just spills, but cov through and through, which tends to upset the locals at times, but hey ho, shit happens!!!!

Don't think I've ever been in. I've visited the Kings Head (I think - up the hill?) for the odd pool match, but next time I'm passing I'll definitely drop in for a pint. Let us all know on here when you have the quiz night too as I'm sure I can muster up a team to attend.

The Kings Head??? :facepalm: although he is another Cov season ticket holder, we're taking over Cubbington, slowly but surely, i've converted a couple of locals into season ticket holders.

The quiz night has passed for this year, however, i think they may be organising one for september, i'll keep all posted

Were getting ahead of ourselves here about optimism. Every year we fall into the trap of ifs buts and maybes without considering reality so here is a reality check.

IF Marlon, Gunnar and Westwood do not sign we will have to sign players to replace them of similar caliber. I doubt they will.

We have the same budget as last season, signing players to replace those two even if they are frees like Phillips and Joe Murphy they will take money away regardless due to signing on fees and agent fees. Then money we have left will probably buy is an extra two additions at the most. So I have no optimism until the I know what the big guns are doing, if they re-sign and we have the same budget to add to the team as last year in Andy Thorn's hand (Seeing as he is a scout) then I will jump on the bandwagon and express my optimism.

But that's all a big IF.

Not sure I would pin my optimism on the fact that Westwood King and Gunnar had to sign. Think i err to cautious optimism because of the prospect of actually getting regular entertainment at the Ricoh for a change ...... and no I dont mean Kings of Leon

Any player is a cog in the machine and as such can and over time will have to be replaced. Its just a simple fact of life. As is the financial restraints at CCFC that means the same budget probably refers to the same wage budget so there will be no big buys without sales.

Dont think it is doom and gloom if the 3 go nor do i see it as promotion optimism if they stay. Looking back 12 months I would say that this year i am filled with more anticipation for the next season..... not because of the squad members but because of the style of play. Somewhat more pessimistic about things off the pitch but thats a different story.

You can never predict what is going to happen, especially in the lower leagues. Norwich got promoted back to back, as did Blackpool, I thought Cardiff would of had a better crack at the whip this season but they crumbled and certainly didn't see Reading snake up the ladder. You never know, if King signs and possibly gunnar it may be quite possible we could be touching on play off spots. I'm certainly not getting my hopes up though.

Money doesnt guarantee you promotion I totally agree but those with it are generally at the top end of the table competing for promotion. Thats a generalisation I know but teams like Blackpool who got promoted on a shoe string are the exception not the rule. There are not many teams dropping out of the Championship after spending millions and plenty with next to no budget that have. What the money does is to increase the chance of success, there are no guarantees.

Promotion is about the right squad at the right time with the right manager and decent backing (financial & otherwise) and a good slice of good fortune
