I have put a similar post to this in a reply in another post, but I think it merits its own post.

Personally my gut feeling is we will lose Murphy, Keogh, Cranie, Clingan, Norwood Nimley.

IMO and I know some people will debate the Clingan bit, but I think they are 6 of our first picks from last season and 4 of them are our senior pros and all of them were our best players from last season.

The season before we lost 6 players 4 of whom were deemed our best players.

They were not adequately replaced and we dropped from just above relegation to a team that were relegated.

SISU say they accept this was the main problem now and say they will not make this mistake again.

So when we lose the above six or five if Murphy stays. IMO those 5/6 will need to be replaced.

Taking into account the drop in division I would be happy if they are replaced with players nearly as good. Such as happened with Murphy replacing Westwood. I think it is not realistic to expect the same calibre of player.

Hence we will need 5-6 signings straight away NOT kids promoted from the academy.

SISU also accepted that our squad currently was too thin in terms of quality. Due to the lack of replacing those players last summer. So on top of replacing man for man that goes we need a couple of signings on top.

By my calculation SISU will need to allow Thorn to sign 7/8 players be it season long loans or free transfers.

My questions are:
Will SISU allow this even if the players are on lower wages?
iF they do are there 8 players out there on free transfers and season long loans who can make us good enough to bounce back?
How many season long loans can you get in one season?

In all honesty the thought of depending on SISU allowing us to make 8 signings fills me with dread.

BUT if they are telling the truth and learnt from their mistakes that is the minimum we should expect if we want to challenge.

Depends who goes. If the big earners go then yes. Wood, Cranie, Clingan alone will pay for 5 or 6 League One players. We can negotiate a couple of good season long loans as well. Perhaps Thorn can even bring himself to part with his beloved Bell - though no-one would want him.

Any idea how many season long loans we could bring in?

Bell is a strange one for me I think he has natural talent. However with his injury record last season I don't think any other championship club would take the chance now.
Just hope he has an injury free season and proves us all wrong. I think if he played 25-30 games he may shock us all with his ability.
When Baker start getting an injury free run he usually starts to win people over again then he gets injured and goes back to square one

Also SISU did promise last season that the wages freed up by Westwood, King, Turner, Gunnar, McIndoe and Carsley were available to be used on free transfers. We believed them especially when contracts had been offered to 4 of the above so why wouldn't we. Those contracts meant the money was there. We all know what happened after that. This is what makes me suspicious if all the others go this time will they just lie to us again or will they honour it.

Think it is 5 allowed in a team at any one point in time.

That could be good if Thorn can arrange them 5 season long loans and 3 free transfers.

That seems more plausible to me. The 5 would need to be of the quality of Nimley and Norwood though and I suppose that is a gamble as they will be kids again maybe a 4-4 split would be better

I think you've got it about right with 5 season long loans and 3 free transfers.
Cant see Sisu, if they are still here, allowing anything else?
One problem though we have a transfer embargo?
If this is not lifted very soon i.e. Sisu submitting accounts then we are going to miss out on the decent players and be left with the deadwood

I think we need 10 new player and that is if we keep Keogh and Murphy.

Why do you think Murphy will go? Only signed a year ago, stayed with Scunthorpe through 2 relelgations, hasn't said anything about leaving apart from some comments that were misunderstood by people! The rest I agree with, they won't be here next season.

Just been a few rumours on here of Murphy going.

How true they are I just don't know.

Have there? Keep missing these rumour! To where?

I would actually be surprised if he went as I think it was obvious for a good year before he came here that he was going to be here and it seemed like he really wanted to play here.

To be honest. I have not heard rumours. I just assume good championship keepers are not easy to find. So some club may bid 50 k for him. He will want to play in championship and sisu will accept any bid for any amount for any player.
