I am thinking 46 - which means 3 wins and 2 draws from our last 7

As it is a tall order to win all of our last 3 at home, we will need an away win

any thoughts

I think another 9 would do it. 10 definitely.

Think 46 as well. I think we can win our 3 home games and draw at Bristol & saints.

We just need more than three other teams! It doesn't matter what it is. All we can do is get points on the board.

I said 42 or 43 a couple of weeks ago, but now everyone around seems to be picking up points in some games (Pompey won 2 out of the last 3, Forest on a bit of a run). Only Bristol and Donny seem to be totally on the slide of late.

I now think it will be about 45-46.

Would say 46 should do it. That means 11 more points. 2 draws and 3 wins. Big ask from just 7 games.

That away win from somewhere is so vital.

Bristol city away is the big one, becoming a must win game

The fact that Bristol Away is a 6 pointer anyway, that changes things. To me, thats most likely the decider, for morale if nothing else.

I'm not that convinced that Bristol is a must win for us.

It certainly is for them, they'll be looking at where they're going to get their points from and will have that game down as an absolute must win. If they lose, i think they are down. However I think we will pick up at least 3 more points than them over the other 6 games, so whilst obviously far from ideal, i think we could lose that game and still stay up.

I'd absolutely snap your hand off right now for a draw though.

Its in our hands. All we have to do is get more points than Donny/Pompey and Bristol and we are safe.

1 more point than Pompey, Donny and Bristol .... actual total is irrelevant

from here on in we need to at least match the best result from each of the above each week. That might mean winning at Bristol is not essential (but preferable)

Hmmmm, I know people are saying we have to match our rivals' results and that a point at Hull would be great, but if we do have to match our rivals' results then surely a point may well not be enough on Saturday!!

Bristol have Derby at home and Pompey, Burnley at home. They could both quite easily win those games. Not so convinced a draw would be a good thing in terms of keeping up and ahead of our rivals.

Exactly my thoughts. It's pointless (no pun intended) say we need 44 or 45 or 46. No one knows. As long as we get the points and have more than three other teams by the end of the season it doesn't matter who we win or draw against. As long as we do.

most replies refer to portsmouth/bristol and doncaster

I can see millwall being relavant also - especially with both us and portsmouth playing them at home

these are all big games

N forest Bristol city
bristol city coventry
portsmouth millwall
coventry millwall
coventry doncaster
Forest portsmouth

however with portsmouth picking up points and Southampton pulling away at the top - the prospect of saints letting us win to send pompey down is becoming much more an opportunity

however we are not great when the opposition tries to throw the game . Ask Bruce Grobbelaar so dont really fancy going to st marys needing anything

Southampton losing on purpose for our benefit isn't a serious suggestion, surely?

Try ... the prospect of Saints's fans wanting to let us win to send pompey down is becoming much more a likelihood.

Southampton will not throw the game with us. They are too professional for that. It's pie in the sky dreamt up by some of their fans. The games at Hull, Burnley and Bristol do look winnable, though 4 to 5 points is probably realistic given our abysmal away form so far. I think we can pick up a minimum of 5 points at home, so a further 10 to 12 points looks achievable, which should just be enough.

2 years ago lazio fans booed and threatened their players if they beat inter milan as it would help roma win the title, the players said they took no notice but didnt string 2 passes together, lost 3-0 and hardly had a shot on goal, the fans cheered inters goals!

in england it could be different story though,in italy the ultras(big fans/hooligans) come watch training or even burst into dressing rooms sometimes

A couple of draws away will keep us up if we continue our home form.

I think 45 will be ample providing we beat Bristol and Doncaster.

I think it is a waste of time thinking how many points we will need as I think 4 points could be enough if the results go as they could, but I also think 12 points would not be enough if we get the wrong results at the wrong time.
