In the paper today there was an article on The Specials. Horace Panter was talking about their 40th anniversary and their upcoming tour. He also mentioned that he still lives in Coventry, and called it " the European city of low self - esteem."
He added that is what keeps his feet on the ground. I'm not sure what he means by all that ? But if someone asked you to sum up in a sentence how would you describe Coventry as a city, what would you say ?
I would say : " As a Coventrian I'm proud of my city, yes it has it's faults, but for all its rough edges it's not that bad. "
Any more suggestions ?

He's talking about the self-deprecation you often encounter with people from Coventry. A modesty. I like that.

I think it's a great place. Lived away a couple of times but have come back and don't regret it. It's my home, and I'm not even going down the 'warts and all' route, because those warts are present in any industrial (or post-industrial) city so there's no point.

I like the fact that Horace isn’t even from Cov and he always gives Cov a mention.... albeit a bit negative in this case.

Reminds me of a bloke I met at an airport in the USA a few years ago, after I noticed that his son was wearing a City away shirt. We got talking about Coventry. I told him that I moved away about 30 years ago, but still visit family every now and again. I asked him if he still live in Cov, and he replied "No mate, moved away years ago - don't go back much now, but look out for CCFC results on the tele. My brother got married a couple of years ago, and I traveled back for his wedding, but I haven't been there since".
"Where do you live now", I asked.
"Nuneaton", he replied.
