How do people feel about the Salvation Army being awarded the contract to run all homeless services in Coventry, bearing in mind their stance on things like homosexuality?

Going to have their work cut out ,given the numbers ,not aware on their stance but I'm guessing It's a cost driven choice .

They have negative views on homosexuality? That's a bummer.

I would imagine they would say that they will not allow their views to impact on their level of service

I'm not that bothered on three counts:
1. I no longer live in Cov
2. I'm not homeless
3. er...... oh yeah, I'm not gay.

Council are leasing a part empty tower block to house homeless.

Plan to use tower block to house Coventry's homeless

Seems like a good idea rather than put people up in dreadful B&B places.
I imagine the place they're using is currently in a bit of a poor state & could do with a facelift.

If Caradoc Hall ends up being full of drug addicts how lovely that'll be for the people who live on Manor Farm. It'd be interesting to see what criteria they're using the house people in the flats or what the prioritisation is.

The council did their very best to ruin the estate in the 90s with their policy of housing problem families on it (including families from other council areas).

Seems like the council and area as a whole are doing well at finding overnight shelter for the homeless in Cov. I'm sure I read whilst the numbers are rising and around 2000, only about 8 people actually sleep rough ?!

Don't know why you think that there were far more rough sleepers than that in the Precinct & immediate surrounding area last weekend.
Just rock up Sunday 10am and have a walk round town, you'll see.

I saw at least 6 walking through the arcade and along to West orchards on Sunday morning.
4 I would say were definitely genuine and 2 I wasn't too sure about.

So many people with beards these days it's difficult to offer money to someone without fear of offending

I always think the ones that have colonised a doorway and have loads of bags are genuine.
Always suspicious of the ones with no bags and a single blanket the thickness of a wafer, not sure anyone would survive too long sleeping outside under one of them.

I am just glad he is not rolling over on his back and getting his belly tickle*

*Thats the last one.

Where abouts is this tower? What would happen if there is potentially a crimewave? Obviously not every person who is homeless is a criminal but how will it work?

Don’t know and don’t know but a shelter when it’s below freezing will save lives

Of course there is that.

If there is a tower block doing nothing then there's no point it sitting there. Maybe employ some of the people to help maintain it too? Two birds with one stone!

In the arcade itself between Argos to Heat there is only 1 now was 2, he’s adjacent to Heat.

The chap that was opposite Greggs and by the grocers he’d been there nearly a couple of years he dissapeared about 3 weeks ago and a woman is now where he was not sure where he’s gone.

There are ALOT of professional beggars and more appearing by the week! Also a lot of the ones like you see in other City’s that pester and follow you for a bit to get money appears to be a more common tactic now.
