Gary Hoffman has said that current Coventry City manager Andy Thorn is the man for the job.

“I think Andy was a great appointment,” said Hoffman, who has spoken of a possible new role for former Chairman Ray Ranson, to the CT.

“Of course when Ray Ranson recommended him as manager most of the board would not have understood what he had done with Ray as chief scout in signing some great young players.

“Interestingly, I have been talking to Ray for a couple of years about convincing him to be Director of Football with Andy Thorn and Steve Harrison looking after day to day matters.”

Good news, I really want Hoffman to take over and I'm glad to hear he sees Andy Thorn in his plans.

Agreed. AT brings everything we are looking for in a manager, to the table. He plays the right brand of football, he has a terrific ability to spot players with potential, he seems to have brought the lads closer together and they are responding to him. You only have to watch the interviews with Sammy and Keys for example, the enthusiasm they show when talking about him. You can tell it's not just playing up to the camera and saying the right things either. It's a genuine respect for him and what he's doing.

That's what p's me off most about out present situation; we FINALLY get a cracking manager and he ends up with less funds than most have wasted. As I've said before, if SISU had stuck to their promise and given him the same budget as Aidy had last season we'd stand an outside chance of the playoffs. If they really do think that they can reduce the wage bill to the bare minimum until we aren't making a loss (as implied by Hoffman), I assume their logic is that with a genius like Thorn in charge, we'll stay up however weak the team is. A miracle worker he may be, but there's only so much he can do. It's so unfair that he isn't getting the chance to work unhindered

Good to hear what I suspected all along though-you only had to hear RR on CWR to know he was their man. He seemed entirely convinced that he'd turn us around. I'd also welcome RR into the Director of Football role along European lines if AT was in charge of team affairs. He knows players and the game in general a darn sight more than most directors.

It seems that we will go through this season with the players that we have (if SISU don't sell anyone to balance the books). If that is the case, then I can think of no better manager to have than AT. A siege mentality is called for, and he has already been there with Wimbledon; he knows what it takes and will make sure that the players know and buy into it.

Yes; I like that attidute. It has succeeded more than once and can do so for us!

The worry for me is how long AT will stick around if Sisu and the board continue not to back him.

Presuming that a takeover does happen within the next month, I think it would be an incredibly stupid decision to get rid of AT, and start a hunt for yet another new manager- at a time of such financial turmoil, the club needs some form of stability on the pitch, at least standing beside it. The club needs a guy who can basically say to the players: 'just put all this crap out of your minds, it's not really your fault, just go out and play, entertain the crowd and of course win the bloomin' game!'

I also hope that we can actually entice *some* players to the club- I've given up caring whether they'd any good or not, but as long as they push our current squad a lot more!
