Roy Hodgson has been appointed as the new manager of West Brom on a one-and-a-half-year deal.

The former Liverpool boss has been out of work for just over a month following his departure from Anfield in early January.

And the Baggies have moved quickly to secure the services of the experienced tactician following their decision to part company with Roberto Di Matteo at the weekend.
Hodgson will not take charge of team affairs until after Saturday's crucial relegation showdown with West Ham at the Hawthorns, with caretaker boss Michael Appleton at the helm for a solitary fixture.

"West Bromwich Albion are delighted to announce they have appointed Roy Hodgson as the club's new head coach," a statement on the club's official website read.

Committed

"The 63-year-old former Inter Milan, Switzerland, Fulham and Liverpool boss has this morning committed himself to the club until June 2012.

"Michael Appleton, who was appointed caretaker head coach on Sunday after Roberto Di Matteo was relieved of his duties, will remain in charge for the West Ham game."

Di Matteo was placed on gardening leave by the Midlands club following their 3-0 defeat by Manchester City which left them only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

A bright start to the season, which included a shock victory away to Arsenal, has unravelled in recent weeks and the Eastlands reverse was their 13th defeat in 18 games in all competitions.

Hodgson was appointed at Anfield in the summer following Rafa Benitez's exit, but lasted just six months as he was unable to bring the success he enjoyed with Fulham to Merseyside.
