How on earth did we lose?

You have to wonder.

Don't wish to be too critical of Burge, but he will surely be a bit disappointed he didn't do better with the two goals. Beaten at his near post a little too easily for the first and not strong enough hands for the second. Errors all round from the defence there though, especially Willis and Grimmer.

Our goal was soft too and their keeper should never have been caught out at his near post either.

Bad miss from Nazon at the end. Got it on target, but it was a bit of a scuff.

Jones looks good again and you know what makes my blood boil, if we had Kyel Reid here doing anything other than his one in five good efforts and contributing something, we would have great potency with Jones and Reid on the two wings.

Just look though how hard Jones tries compared to Reid.

We simply cannot afford to have an over reliance on Jodi Jones.

Seems like we at least deserved a draw. I am not going to be getting too hung up on yesterday's result. I think we are still going in the right direction.

From what I can see we lost because we used most of chances to shoot straight at the keeper and didn't mark their striker closely enough - he moves away from his marker too easily both times. Jones was unlucky to hit the bar with a smashing shot however.

Yeah, definitely too many long range shots and not making the keeper stretch enough to save them. Most of them pretty standard saves for the keeper.

Good save from Jones and Jones also a little unlucky with the one off the bar.

For the first goal McDonald was in no-man's land. He and Willis completely caught out. Shame Davies pulled out with illness as deserved a run in the team. I still rate McDonald massively though.

Vincenti is part of the reason Jones is better this season
They switch wings regularly during games which we didn't see at all last year

just watched extended highlights and to be honest 2 sloppy goals conceded but going forward we were much better than our last away game and should of come away with something,i think if davies had played at the back he would of offered a more physical challenge to their strikers

How many of our shots just needed to be to the left or right a little rather than down the keepers throat?

The difference now is we are creating chances.

It's good movement and headers from Cambridge for both goals - must be difficult to defend against. We could do with a number 9 like that.

The best missed chance for us looks like the Nazon one at the end - he should have done better.

I hate to write it but if Jones keeps performing like that we may find it impossible to keep him next transfer window. Everything is going through him - we'd struggle without him now.

I said on the Burge thread earlier that after all the praise he's had lately, he hasn't done himself any favours there. 1st goal especially. Comes for it, changes his mind then he's not set and it's a very very soft goal on his near post. And as much as stokes should of done much better, it was very soft hands for the 2nd.

Very fine margins between winning and getting nothing.
We are still crying out for a natural goal scorer, which was evident in pre season.

Yeah, Pasty, you would think he would have to be a little disappointed with his efforts there.

Think Forde will be even more disappointed that Ducks shot was allowed passed him

Think you're being generous there - he took 3 steps backwards for the first goal, I'd hardly call that good movement! At the point the ball is crossed he and Willis are shoulder to shoulder.

I don't care about other teams keepers. They can do what they like.

Can't believe a keeper for Forde's quality is playing at this level!

Gordon Banks would have saved that first goal.
It was just like the one he saved from Pele in the 1970 World Cup.

What about when they have games of their lives, which is usually the case against us some games?

He did - and completely lost the defenders with them. Just imagine if he's taken four steps, he may have scored two goals with one header.

Yes they usually do. Crewe in the JPT at home springs to mind.
Also that night Burge was filling in for the injured Joe Murphy, think Crewe had 4 shots on goal (3 on target) in comparison to our 13 or 14 or so on target. I don't think that he'll have a game that good again as long as he's playing!

I couldn't remember who it was, I just remember Murphy limping off just after half time, 1st thing his replacement had to do and it was in the back of the net. 2nd thing was tale a goal kick and he subsequently injured himself doing so. Limped for the remainder of the ge I seem to remember!

Yes, Jones is one player who you expect things from. Its not only skill but image - daft as it sounds he looks like he's the bollocks. Likewise, I can see him off after Christmas and that will spark another round of fun with us all spinning the wheel of blame.

Biamou header was the worst miss by far, got to score that. The 2 big strikers were a handful all game.

There is no one at fault for the first goal except Willis, and for the second I think Stokes should have done better. Instead of trying to blame Burge for every goal that he concedes, let's acknowledge that sometimes he can't save them, and apportion the blame elsewhere, if indeed, we have to blame someone. Why not try supporting the whole team - from 1 - 11?

I am a Burge supporter, but he should have done better with the first goal, but hopefully he learns from it. It wasn't a clanger like O'Brien at least. Plus the defending was horrific for both goals, caught out both times.
Second goal not so much on burge's fault, wouldn't say it's weak wrists, it's just that he's not got enough behind it, jack Butland had the same against Newcastle, when they see it late because the ball comes at them from close range it's hard to get your body behind it, and with a reaction save it's a lot harder.

I'm a regular critic of Burge but I would not blame him for either goal, poor defending yes.

Hopefully yes, but hopefully also something he learnt from, and the defenders too, because they are going to have to get used to that type of play from now on.
