Possibly the biggest mistake ever made in the clubs history.
I still get weepy when talking about highfield road.
They were the days when I felt like we(the fans) owned our club
Selling Ben Turner for 750k, letting Noel Whelan "have a night out, but dont go too crazy Noel", Sacking EB for Peter Reid, Listening to Oyne, "text a sub", Nacho Novo has signed (or has he), fans forum but you arent allowed to know what was said, cashless turnstyles, Lee Sawyer, loaning PVA and banning him from going over the halfway line after 1st game, not signing Chris Marsden, giving McPake another contract, letting Fat Freddie sit around for months (surely he is in breach of his contract ?), Signing Marlon King for only 6 months, World Cup star Alexi Lalas could be coming, Steve Walsh, buying 2 goalkepeers when you only have money for 3 players,
paying £5,000,000.01 for Lee Hughes, "Elliot Ward and Leon Barnett, now theres a crap centre half duo" oh they got Norwich up !, Not signing Le Fondre, Not playing Alosis, holding up a banner saying "we will be back", standing by a statue, turning down 6 million from Liverpool for Ndlovu, Robert Jarni has joined, SISU....
We didnt start the fire !!
Two things amaze me about your list.
1. You are still droning on about the London SC meeting. Is it really one of the most important events?
2. There is no mention of the common demominator with
all our woes, the Golden Thread. Bryan Richardson. He was a million times worse than sISU will ever be. Like I said I am amazed that you missed him from your list.
And, finally to the OP. I loved HR. It was just the right size for us, excellent during night matches. Fond memories.
Richardson was a chancer but I would rather have had the 10 years under him than the last 10. Mcginnity destroyed the club. Sacked 2 potentially good managers and more importantly refused administration after relegation when there was no financial penalty. We have paid the penalty ever since.
I wouldn't accuse anyone of 'destroying the club' by wanting to make sure that creditors got paid-which usually extends to quite a lot of local businesses who got shafted by our M69 friends when they built the Crisp Bowl for nothing.
A chancer? Richardson was a crook. Debts went to £60M with Richardson in charge. McGinnity reduced it by £20M. McG may not have been perfect but the rot started with BR.
Seems i've opened up an owner-based debate i know very little about, so sorry about that!
Looking at things again from the outsider perspective, i've never been to the Ricoh but from the reports and highlights
i've seen it always looks like a friendly match. But Highfield Rd always seemed quite intense and had identity, so although there's no success on the pitch at the Ricoh- i wondered if it's working both ways.

Who is it you support anyway, out of interest?
Nostalgia eclipses reality..
Always better to start as a neutral when you're being genuine i think ! But i've broken the ice so should be free from geographical abuseI support Tranmere
Nowt wrong with Tranmere! League Cup '99 your last visit?

HR was horrible to get to, devoid of atmosphere and horrible to watch games in.
Any other viewpoint is just nostalgia because we were in the Prem at the time IMO. I remember many a game in front of a silent 12k with a pillar blocking my view, my knees by my ears and talking an hour to get out and back to my car.
I wouldn't trade the Ricoh for HR in a million years.
