Always in the main stand (for the reserve games)
West terrace for main games
Standing in the west terrace great times , the atmosphere changed as soon as our jimmy had the seats put in destroyed the west end.West End! None of this new fangled West Terrace stuff. But it was a terrace then. Packed in behind the goal, just lads, mostly teenagers, every week the real tension of a probable attack from the away fans unless we were playing Norwich, Ipswich, QPR or Southampton. Scary sometimes but oddly thrilling. Developed a strong dislike of away fans in the 70s that still lingers today and I’m in my late 50s.
Main Stand was all they opened for the Reserves. Remember the paper team sheets.
So it seems most still prefer Highfield Rd including me. So where did we all used to sit/stand?
Season ticket in the West Terrace for me. Bang in the middle of the goal-Seat 90 row P which was far enough back under the West Stand above incase it started lashing down.
Which of you old duffers had your blanket and flask in the Main Stand then? :emoji_smiley:
Used to love the reserve games at HR, the printed team sheets, one or two big names coming back from injury when we played the likes of Liverpool. Used to get decent numbers there.Main Stand was all they opened for the Reserves. Remember the paper team sheets.
Basically had a ST everywhere.
Grrr.....crappy Highfield Road.
Frank Sinclair celebrated his goal by pulling his shorts down...First few years was the only time I had a season ticket there, was in the sky blue stand roughly level with the 18 yard line near the west terrace. Ended up watching games from everywhere though including the reserve games (Willie Boland's stomping ground, sometimes literally). I have two abiding memories of the west terrace - coming up the stairs for a game against Liverpool and there being a massive flag going over which scared the bejesus out of me, and that game where Dion Dublin scored a hat-trick against Chelsea on the first day of the season we were sat on the very first row on the hottest day I can remember and I came away with my worst ever sunburn. Magic
Hillfields?Everywhere!
My 'dad' (not the real one) had a season ticket to the main stand so I sometmes sat with him. I think at one time or another I stood in all the standing sections including a largely deserted Spion Kop on a freezing February afternoon.
Hey it was cheap and where else you get that much entertainment for that little money on a Saturday afternoon?
