I know if you earn millions it doesn’t matter if you earn it all in one year, you don’t have to have lots of cars and mistresses.
My friend was neighbours with Dean West ex Burnley and other lower league teams when I met him he was driving a sponsored Nissan while all the other players were buying fancy cars even though they were below the top league at the time, he spent all his money buying up property in the north with another player from what I know he has a very nice retirement and now drives a fancy car.

Calum Davenport, 75 games for City in less than three years a real emerging star. Big money move to Tottenham and it all unravelled. He also had loan opportunities with big teams, but couldn't turn it around. It all ended up quite sad.

I don't think he was a failure, but perhaps didn't live up to expectation? Interestingly his scoring record at Forrest wasn't too far adrift from his Coventry one, but that isn't most people perception!
Davenport established himself at West Ham didn't he (edit: no he didn't) but injuries on and ultimately off the field put paid to him. He gets forgotten about as academy products go but he's probably one of the top 10 in the last 20 years.
